- 1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 Granny Smith apples – peeled, cored and finely diced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Prepare cake mix according to package directions for a 10-inch tube pan. Stir in the cinnamon and vanilla extract, then fold in the chopped apples.
- Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean, about 40 minutes. Allow to cool.

Love this recipe. I have made this many times. It freezes very well. I usually garnish it with a drizzle of butterscotch sauce. Delish 🙂
after you chop up the apples, mix them with brown sugar and cinnamon and butter, set aside, and mix the cake as directed. Put the apples on bottom, I used 3, and then drizzle dough from box mix over them well. I also added caramel drizzle before baking, baked at 350 for 35 mins. and added powdered sugar drizzle on top. YUMMMMMM
I’m giving this five stars because I followed it exactly as written and it turned out to be an excellent way to turn the box cake into something unique. I plan to sprinkle powdered sugar over top but when I took this picture the cake wasn’t cool enough yet to do that.
Made this and it was gone in one day. Family loved it. It was very moist and the small diced apples really did the trick.
I split the water in half, making up the other half with cinnamon applesauce. I used a whole stick of butter because to have a little pat leftover bugged me. I added cinnamon, allspice and vanilla but didn’t measure. Finally, I shredded the apples instead of dicing. Moist and delicious cake!

Super easy! I used a box of spice cake mix and omitted the cinnamon. I also used 3 apples. Came out nice and moist. Will make again!
I substituted fuji apple clear america sparkling water, for 3/4 cup of the cake mix water. I also added cardamom to the mix. Made into mini bundt cakes and melted hersheys gold candy on top. tasted like a carmel apple cake.
This was great – does NOT taste like a boxed mix. I used 3 gala apples, and took another reviewers suggestion and mixed 2Tbsp cinnamon, 1tsp nutmeg and 1/2 cup brown sugar into the diced apples before folding them into the batter.
No I didn’t make any changes. I felt it wasn’t dense enough. Also… I’d never use a bundt pan for this recipe … I followed the instructions to a ‘t’ and it did not come out well and didn’t really seem like a bundt cake to me. I wouldn’t make this again Very disappointed

Disappointing. Made cake as directed subbing applesauce for oil and cake was moist but bland tasting. Definitely needs more flavor. Next time I’ll add some nutmeg, allspice & cloves & see if that gives it more flavor.
I just made this, and I used eggnog in place of the water on the cake mix box, and i did do a drizzle of powdered sugar/milk/vanilla on top. I used Granny Smith apples and did not peel them. put them in the food processor to chop them up. It was gone in 10 minutes
I did slightly more than 1 T. cinnamon, added 1/4 t. nutmeg and 1 t. vanilla. I subbed applesauce for the oil. It was fine. Kenny liked it, I think I just expected it to be a little bit better somehow.
My son and I made this today as dessert for Rosh Hashanah and My whole family loved it! We used apples my daughter and husband had picked and the house smelled so goodI I can’t wait to have some with coffee tomorrow and will never again make yellow cake mix without adding (at least) cinnamon and vanilla!
This is not what moms apple cake tastes like for sure. Not good. My family are sweet addicts. After the first servings this cake sat uneaten for days. Not a good recipe.
This cake taste amazing ! I followed the recipe exactly but , I also added apple sauce and nutmeg. I added brown sugar on the bottom of the cake pan. On the top of the cake I put powdered sugar. I made this dish for Thanks Giving ! Buen Provecho.
This is an easy recipe but I added more cinnamon and nutmeg and I was disappointed in the flavor. Too bland. I will try it again though.
This is delicious! I made it in abatch of small silicon individual servings and baked for 20-25 minutes. So easy 12 year old made it and I just had to ladle into pans.
I tried to step ths up with a Butter Pecan flavored cake mix the suggested cinnamon and a bit of pecans in the mix. It was great…easy …simple and delicious.
I made this yesterday, and it has great flavor and moist.But I used applesauce instead of the oil and my cake came out very crumbly.
