This recipe was such a tasty blessing to find in the nick of time for a church event. Thank you so much! After perusing some of the suggestions, I also changed just a few things to great success: 1. I used strawberry pie filling instead of glaze with the fresh strawberries. 2. I used 1/2 c. powdered sugar instead of 1 c. granulated, added more vanilla and a “blob” of sour cream to the cream cheese mixture before folding in whipped topping. 3. I used a Danish butter cake for the bottom layer. You know it’s a great recipe when it works so well, even with some slight variations on the theme. Well done.
I have made this for years. I absolutely love it and so does everyone else. If you have to change the ingredients, at least don’t leave a negative review on it. I don’t understand that. Oh, I didn’t like it, but I changed this and that…………….Rate this recipe. Not what you changed it to. I love this dessert. I have changed it a few times for my diabetic friends. Used sugar free Angel food cake (found at Wally World) and splenda. Was perfect still……….:)
This was awesome. Every party we have, I am expected to make this. The only change I made was that I make my own whipped topping and add to the cream cheese mixture and on top. It turned out amazing. (1 1/2 cup heavy cream, 3 TBSP sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla. Whip on high speed until thick and consistent with whipped cream from a tub)
I followed this recipe to the “T” and loved it. I didn’t know what to expect and everyone at the party loved it!! It was wrecked!! Yay!! Thanks for this! I have something new to make oh and it was so pretty!! I wouldn’t change a thing!!
I loved it with the strawberries. But I decided to change some of the ingredients. I instead change the cake to a vanilla pudding cake 10 inch and instead of using the strawberries I changed it 2 cans of blueberries pie filling instead. So one recipe became 2 different ones and both are very delicious.
Really easy and really good! Definitely a keeper and a good recipe for a potluck group. Also because it’s a large dessert, unless you have a big family. I made a pound cake instead just because I like it better than angel food and I thought it would make a better cake for a strawberry shortcake. Also I used strawberry pie filling with the sliced strawberries as someone else suggested. It didn’t have that fake taste like the grocery store glaze has and wasn’t overly sweet. It makes a beautiful presentation. I’ll definitely make this again. Thanks for a solid, easy but good, recipe!
I loved the recipe, and my guests did too, so much that we all had second helpings. I did make some changes for convenience. I substituted pound cake for angel food. I substituted my strawberry freezer jam which had not “set” properly for the glaze. The store where I shopped had neither. I intend to make it again.
Was a Hit delicious
I made this for a coworker’s birthday. Everyone thought it was great. I made it in a trifle bowl and it looked very pretty. We then spooned it into Chinet, cut crystal plastic cups to serve. It was delicious!
I don’t think I’ve ever given a food review in all my years on All Recipes. This has driven me to do so. This has got to be one of the BEST desserts I’ve ever had! Just as a side note, I used real heavy whipping cream and added some vanilla. Perfect summer dessert!
It was very good, and very refreshing.
easy to make brought it to a get together and everyone wanted the receipe
Delicious! Made no changes
Just made this recipe, but I flipped it around. I put the cake on the bottom, then the strawberries with a tad bit of the glaze, then the cream cheese mixture on top. I wanted the cake to get some of the flavoring. Topped with blueberries and strawberries. Excellent.
I made my angel food cake and my strawberry glaze from scratch. Store-bought just doesn’t compare! This was an amazingly simple and DELICIOUS dessert!! Loved, loved…LOVED!!!
Our family normally adds a layer of vanilla pudding in trifle and I was really missing it amongst the flavors.
Three stars for the recipe as it is. Had to modify the recipe. Too much bloody sugar, cut that in half to a half cup. Also, forget the fake whipped topping rubbish. Grab some cream and whip it in the mixer. Lastly made my own strawberry glaze, no premade glaze thank you. And for God sake, no fat free cream cheese or cream, it’s dessert, so enjoy yourself, fat doesn’t make you fat.
Delicious and simple. A great dish to bring to a party or pot luck because it’s so pretty and fresh tasting. My husband who thinks all desserts are too sweet, loves this! I made it in a triffle dish the first time which looked beautiful. The second time I made it in a 9 x 13 pan and only did one layer which makes it much easier to serve.
I have made this several times. It is one of my family’s favorites.
I made it with low fat cool whip and cream cheese and you couldn’t tell. Fantastic
I made this once before but lost the recipe. It is the easiest summertime dessert. The only thing I did differently was I cut back the sugar. Some were saying that they did not like the gel. I read one lady’s review and she used Marzetti Glaze which is the best in my book. If you found that the glaze you used was not the best even with the fresh sweet strawberries try the Marzetti Glaze or as some have done they make their own.
