Easy apple crisp made in the crockpot. This recipe transforms plentiful fall apples into a comforting dessert in the slow cooker. Add vanilla ice cream to the dish.

Prep Time: 30 mins
Cook Time: 2 hrs
Additional Time: 1 hr
Total Time: 3 hrs 30 mins
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  2. ½ cup light brown sugar
  3. ½ cup white sugar
  4. ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  5. ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  6. 1 pinch salt
  7. ½ cup butter, cut into pieces
  8. 1 cup chopped walnuts
  9. ⅓ cup white sugar, or to taste
  10. 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  11. ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  12. ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  13. 6 cups apples – peeled, cored and chopped
  14. 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Make the topping: Mix flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt together in a bowl. Add butter and mix with your fingers or a fork until coarse crumbs form. Stir in walnuts.
  2. Make the apples: Whisk sugar, cornstarch, ginger, and cinnamon together in a small bowl.
  3. Place apples in a slow cooker. Stir in cornstarch mixture. Add lemon juice and toss to combine. Sprinkle topping over apples. Cover and cook until apples are tender, on Low for 4 hours or High for 2 hours.
  4. Turn off the slow cooker, partially uncover, and let stand until topping has hardened, about 1 hour.

Absolutely delicious!! Thank you for this great recipe. I can even make it with sugar substitute.!

Was rather disappointed in the end result. Followed the instructions to a T but ended up with basically stewed apple that was sickly sweet and despite slightly opening the slow cooker for an hour to crisp up the topping, it did nothing. If ever I make it again, I’ll cut back on the sugar.

I thought it was good, and I like using my crock pot when I get a chance. Definitely serve with vanilla ice cream- it’s a wonderful combo.

No changes. But I put in some fig pieces, and I’m cooking it now.

Granny Smith apples hold up the best in a slow cooker. The others, honey crisp and sweet tango was mush. My husband loved it anyway. Since it’s almost Thanksgiving, instead of ice cream we poured Southern Comfort Vanilla Spice Egg Nog (it’s non alcoholic) over the crisp and that was soooo delicious. A short cut I learned decades ago is if you have guests visiting and you’re in need of a vanilla sauce etc. for any dessert and don’t have time to make, buy the best quality ice cream you can afford (don’t go cheap) completely thaw pour it in a pouring container like a gravy boat and serve that with your dessert. Your guests will think it’s from scratch unless you tell them.

This was my first attempt at apple crisp. Instead of chopping the apples I sliced them thin, and stirred in a bit of rolled oats (about 1/4 – 1/3 cup worth) into the topping as someone suggested. It tastes fantastic with vanilla bean ice cream!

I used Macintosh apples and doubled the recipe. I would say doubling the recipe makes a proper 6 servings. The recipe is absolutley wonderful! I cooked it on high for 3 hours and then opened it up and put it on keep warm for 30 min. I will absolutely be making this recipe again!!!

I made this for my family and they raved about it! Added two extra apples (just to use them up) and one cup of oats to the topping. It was perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

When I looked in the crock pot after an hour, I was a little worried. But oh my goodness, when it finished. Wow! Best apple crisp I’ve ever had, and so easy. I doubled the recipe and used a 6-quart crock pot. Increased the cooking time from 2 hours to 3 hours before removing the lid. I used 1/2 granny smith and 1/2 gala apples.

It was fast and easy, i had everything in my pantry. The only thing i changed was i put butter on top for the last hour and i’m not sure if it changed the texture or not so i will have to try again and see over all the flavor is so so yummy!

I don’t know what I did wrong, but this turned out to be chunky applesauce with flour and oats in it. I will just try to bake another recipe instead of the slow cooker.

I had some apples to use and decided to make this today and I can’t say enough of how awesome it turned out. Put some whipped cream on it for dessert and it was heavenly. I actually found myself cleaning out the crockpot with my finger for every last drop. Will definitely make this apple crisp again!

WONDERFUL!! You can make this as is and it’s a perfect recipe. I did add 1 cup of oats, as others had mentioned, because that makes this health food….right. Haha, ok maybe not but I like the oats.

Loved it so much, no one can ruin a apple crisp am I right?!

The only thing I didn’t use was the walnuts because I am not a big fan of walnuts with desserts but it is so good. It is way better using these ingredients than just pie filling and cake mix. So soft, the perfect tart taste and the perfect sweet taste. I used all golden apples.

Deliciously moist and yummy!! Had mine with some chocolate chip ice cream!!

I have made this many times before. We love this recipe. I however prefer oats as my topping and omit the flour and just use oats.
