Ingredients

  1. 2 cups sandhill plums, pitted and peeled
  2. 1 cup brown sugar
  3. ⅓ cup confectioners’ sugar
  4. ⅛ cup all-purpose flour
  5. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  6. ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  7. ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  8. 1 unbaked deep-dish pie crust
  9. 1 unbaked single pie crust
  10. 2 tablespoons milk
  11. ⅛ cup white sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Mix plums, brown sugar, confectioners’ sugar, flour, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and nutmeg together in a medium bowl. Pour into the deep-dish pie crust.
  3. Cut the regular pie crust into strips and lay over the fruit mixture. Brush milk on the crust and sprinkle sugar all over it.

I pitted my sand plums with a cherry pitter and did not peel them. It turned out very good, though it could probably use more sand plums than the recipe called for.

I made this pie with freshly picked sand plums and it was delicious! I made some modifications to make it gluten free, and just pitted and sliced my sand plums. I will definitely make this next season!
