This cool macaroni salad is very tasty. We developed it together using the ingredients we like most, and throughout the summer, we frequently prepare it to serve with lunches or as a dinner on very hot days. Simple recipe that you can adapt to your own preferences. Enjoy and be imaginative!

Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 40 mins
Total Time: 1 hr
Servings: 6
Yield: 1 (8-inch square) crisp

Ingredients

  1. 2 ½ cups apples – peeled, cored, and sliced
  2. 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  3. 1 cup white sugar
  4. ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  5. ¼ teaspoon salt
  6. ½ cup butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking dish.
  2. Arrange apple slices evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sift flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt into a bowl. Cut in butter using a pastry blender, or 2 knives, until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal; sprinkle over apples.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until topping is golden, 40 to 45 minutes. Cool slightly before serving.
  4. The butter should be gently cut into the flour so it remains in small lumps. This will result in a light, crunchy topping.

I made this recipe but used 2 cans of apple pie filling instead of the raw apples. I also changed from pure cinnamon in the topping to apple pie spice. We really enjoyed this. I’m sure it will be better when I can use fresh apples when apple season arrives, but using the canned filling was very, very good. Think this would work with other kinds of fruit pie filling as well.

It was delicious although a bit sweet.

we have a few apples that were overripe a bit – use them all in this recipe and it was fantastic! Didn’t change a thing. Even the “salt free” daughter loved it. Great with a scoop of ice cream too!

Great recipe and easy to make. I would use less sugar next time – perhaps 1/2 to 3/4 cup. Will definitely make again!

Great recipe but I used brown sugar and less and CERTAINLY no need for salt. Add half oats as well as a change

This was delicious. I changed the sugar to 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup dark brown sugar. Plenty sweet. Also, added one bag of instant oatmeal. Yummy!

Easy apple crisp recipe which I was I was looking for. I did add 3 cups of apples, rather than 2 1/2, but followed the remaining ingredients. It turned out exactly as I hoped. Very good recipe!

So easy and very delicious! I doubled it and used a 9×13. I sprinkled cinnamon, all spice and cloves over the apples before i put on the crumb topping. I also added vanilla to the topping and used half white, half brown sugar. Served warm with whipped topping.

This was quick and easy, just like the title claims. While it is a simple recipe, it is scrumptious! I tried it the first time, and took it to church for fellowship (make a double batch), it was met with many compliments, and seconds… 😉

It was delicious. I modified to fit the ingredients I had in the house. I was trying to use up apples, so I doubled the recipe. I didn’t have enough butter, so I used part butter and part shortening. I doubled the cinnamon by accident, but it ended up being quite nice that way.

Very easy and tastes delicious

Great recipe! Just a little too sweet for my taste. I used about 3/4 of a cup of sugar the first time baking it – I’ll probably cut it down to a half cup for next time!

This was great! I doubled the apples and the topping and subbed spenda for the sugar (also added a little nutmeg) It’s great with sugar free whipped cream. Will definitely make again, my family loved it!
