Years ago, I was given a recipe for chicken spread. It’s insanely good! Serve with crackers flavored with chicken.

Prep Time: 35 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Additional Time: 2 hrs
Total Time: 3 hrs 35 mins
Servings: 16
Yield: 1 9-inch springform pan

Ingredients

  1. cooking spray
  2. 1 (18 ounce) package fudge brownie mix (such as Duncan Hines®)
  3. ½ cup vegetable oil
  4. 2 eggs
  5. ¼ cup water
  6. ½ cup brown sugar
  7. ⅓ cup light corn syrup
  8. 2 large eggs
  9. 1 tablespoon bourbon (Optional)
  10. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  11. ½ teaspoon sea salt
  12. ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  13. 2 cups pecan halves

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a deep 9-inch springform pan with aluminum foil and coat generously with cooking spray.
  2. Whisk brownie mix, oil, 2 eggs, and water together in a bowl until well combined. Spread batter into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean, about 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave the oven on.
  4. Whisk brown sugar, corn syrup, 2 eggs, bourbon, vanilla extract, and salt together in a bowl. Add melted butter slowly, whisking until well combined. Add pecans and stir to coat in filling. Pour gently over brownie layer; spread evenly using a spatula.
  5. Bake in the hot oven until center is set, 30 to 35 minutes. Let cool to room temperature at least 2 hours.
  6. Honey can be used in place of corn syrup.
  7. You can use light or dark brown sugar.
  8. If desired, chill the final product in the fridge for a shorter cooling time.
  9. The directions for making brownies are based on the particular brand mentioned. Follow instructions on the box if using a different brand.

I made these. First of all they are not cheap to make considering it takes nearly a whole jar of corn syrup and all the pecans. If you have a partial or dentures forget these. There are many more brownie recipes on this site that are much better. I usually make browines every couple weeks and these will not be on my list to make.

I have now made this 5 or 6 times. It is one of my favorite “wow” desserts. I use Hershey’s Triple Chocolate Brownie Mix from Sam’s for the brownie — awesome in itself. Note: if you have a non-stick spring-form pan you do NOT have to use the aluminum foil. The baked brownie is VERY strong and malleable. Run a knife around the edge and the spring-form comes right off. Flip the brownie over on to some parchment paper and start running a rounded knife around the pan base and it will come right off also.

This was a big hit with our Life Group. Cooking times need to be a little longer. Gooey goodness. Would use coarsely chopped of pecans next time.

Wow! Were these ever delicious brownies! I used pecan pieces instead of halves, and had to bake them in a small rectangular pan, but they were extraordinarily good. I’ll be making these a lot, especially at the holidays!

Easy to follow and delicious

So rich and delicious. Small pieces are plenty. I used maple syrup instead of Caro in pecan mixture, for just a little more flavor. Elegant-looking with whipped cream as a dinner party dessert.

Followed directions as stated. I wouldn’t make it again. Tasted like brownies with lots of nuts on top. Nothing special.

This was so delicious! The brownie got chewy/ overcooked a bit which is the only reason I gave this 4 stars. The pecan pie topping was so good. Overall a delicious and show stopping dessert!
