This is a fantastic Southern recipe that is simple to make and tastes terrific.
Prep Time: | 15 mins |
Cook Time: | 30 mins |
Total Time: | 45 mins |
Servings: | 8 |
Yield: | 1 9×9-inch cobbler |
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup white sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup milk
- ½ cup margarine, melted
- 1 (29 ounce) can sliced canned peaches, drained
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, white sugar, baking powder, salt, and vanilla. Pour milk into dry ingredients, and then stir in melted margarine. Mix thoroughly.
- Pour mixture into prepared baking pan. Arrange peaches on top and sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.
- To use fresh peaches, you may substitute 4 cups peeled, sliced peaches for the canned peaches. To peel peaches, bring a pot of water to a boil. Remove from heat. Carefully drop peaches into hot water; let stand for 1 minute. Use a slotted spoon to transfer peaches to an ice water bath; when peaches are cool enough to handle, skin will slip right off.

I made it with fresh peaches, omg My husband and I couldn’t stop eating it Wonderful. Perfect wouldn’t change a thing.
Absolutely delicious!! My family couldn’t get enough!!! The only change I made was to use butter because we don’t use margarine and self rising flour. Remember to eliminate the baking powder/soda if using self rising flour. This definitely is a keeper!!!!
Enjoyed it! Instead of margarine, I used butter, it was good! Next time I think that I will add the butter to the dry ingredients before adding the milk.
Was great, I added some nutmeg and a lot more cinnamon. Extra cinnamon on top and some in the batter.
Made this today. Used fresh unpealed peaches. Because I like a crispy crust, I substituted butter for milk. I baked it longer, about 45 mins. total. came out pretty good.
Nice base recipe, I did add extra cinnamon and nutmeg used 3 29oz cans of peaches 1 drained, the other 2 not, plus I replaced the liquid and used the remaining peach juice. Definitely will make again
Saved the juice from the peaches to add to the batter if needed. Added cinnamon and nutmeg to batter. Stirred peaches up in bowl with cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar before placing on top. Doubled the recipe– had to cook for over an hour in order for it to set. Cover top with foil to keep from burning. Very good!
Really easy and tasty. I will make again!
Easy to make! Waiting for it to cool a little
This reminded me of my mother’s upside-down cake. I made it exactly to recipe and loved it Thanks for the memories.
Love it
Never made this before. Followed the recipe and 2 recommendations; for adding 1/4 cup flour and milk, plus lowering the temperature to 350-375 for 30 minutes and 400 for the last 10. It turned out fantastic and was a hit with everyone! Thank you.
My family absolutely loved this cobbler! I even took leftovers to work and now I have to make some for the next dinner we have! A+
Made this last night for my family, it was easy to make & my mother words in head saying (if you have nothing to say say nothing at all. We didn’t like it. Need to cook peaches fresh or canned cook.
I thought it was going to be a crumble, but when I pulled it out of the oven it was more of a cake. It tasted great but I was still disappointed that it wasn’t a crumble. When we left it out overnight it got a little spongy.
Quick and easy. Yummy with vanilla ice cream.
My family loved this recipe! A real southern gem. Thanks for sharing.
OMG! To die for. Had such an urge and was having company over so I decided to make it. I am baking declined, can cook but cakes and such are not my thing. This was so easy and so good that it was gone. Thank you.
I tried to make it with fresh peaches. I added flour to the peaches and a small amount of white sugar, like I do with pies. It didn’t turn out. After 30 min baking time the mix for the crust was still very runny under the nicely browned crust. I baked it another 20 min, until the top was almost dark brown but it just never baked underneath. I think it would have been better to bake it at 325 for an hour if you’re using fresh peaches. All that being said, the flavor of the crust was really good!
Best cobbler I’ve had in a very long time, I made a simple syrup with the peach juice and brown sugar to top the cobbler, amazing simply amazing
its art work ,cant cut into it lol ohh its Yummmy!
