One summer, I ate red beans and rice in Savannah at a fantastic restaurant. When I got back home, I attempted to understand how they managed to survive. Although I haven’t quite figured it out, this recipe makes a respectable replica. If desired, serve with warm white rice, fried potatoes, and cornbread.

Ingredients

  1. 4 cups peeled and sliced fresh peaches
  2. 1 cup fresh blackberries
  3. ¼ cup white sugar
  4. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  5. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  6. ½ cup butter, melted
  7. 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  8. 1 cup white sugar
  9. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  10. ½ teaspoon salt
  11. 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Mix peaches, blackberries, 1/4 cup sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a bowl.
  3. Pour butter into a 9×13-inch glass baking dish and evenly coat the bottom and sides. Whisk flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl; mix in milk, stirring just to moisten dry ingredients. Pour batter into prepared baking dish and distribute fruit mixture evenly over the batter.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until cobbler is golden brown, about 45 minutes.

This recipe was great and I liked the flavor of the cake. Next time I will only use 1/2 the melted butter. It seemed a little salty around the crust.

I switched out the flour for Bisquick and rolled oats..Also used half brown sugar and half white sugar..I just popped it in to the oven ..looked great going in

Really yummy cobbler recipe. I used 1/4 cup brown sugar and 3/4 cup sugar for the batter. The peach and blackberry combo is great. The blackberries sunk to the bottom so even though you don’t see many on the surface…they are there and add great flavor.

This is great recipe. Fast, easy and only few ingredients. I split it up into two smaller casserole dishes to share with a friend. The baking time stayed the same for my casserole dish, and five minutes less for one of those aluminum freezer-to-oven pans. Definitely will make again!!

used a bag of frozen peaches from whole foods. kept an eye on it and baked a bit longer to get browner, crispier edges. yummy!

I loved the cake portion of it as much as the fruit. I made 1/2 recipe and it worked well for me. I would add more blackberries next time. Will definitely make this again!

My family just loved this recipe! They are still raving about it today. I added a little cinnamon to the batter and it really worked. I love cinnamon and so adding a little extra just seemed like it would make it taste even better. I will definitely be making this again in the future. Oh, I also served it warm with vanilla ice cream! So good!!!!

Delicious! I remember a recipe very similar to this I made as a teenager which is why I chose this one. I did make a couple of substitutions based on the ingredients I had on hand. I used Bisquick instead of flour and I used 1/2 c heavy cream and 1/2 c 2% milk because I didn’t have whole milk. It tastes great, however, my batter came out a little too thin. That’s my fault due to the substitutions I made. I will for sure make this again as the recipe is written and hopefully my crust will turn out better. Overall, it’s a great recipe that’s simple to make and difficult to mess up, even if you don’t exactly follow the instructions as written.

Almost as good as your grandmother’s, or at least an aunt! I have a split glass dish which isn’t 9×13 so I adjusted slightly and thankfully all was well. Blackberry on one half and strawberry peach on the other. I used canned peaches and saved the juice for something else. The only bad thing is that I live alone and since we’re quarantined in my country because of the virus, I had no one to help me eat it!

I reversed the amount of peaches and berries. My sister is gluten free so I made the batter with gluten free flour. I also used frozen fruit thawed out making sure to drain much of the natural juices that occur. I will use it later for something else, maybe a barbecue sauce. Will be trying it later today with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Picked my own blackberries in Anacortes, WA with my grandson and used locally grown peaches. Made this cobbler for my family, perfect results and everyone was trying to get the last bite. Keeper recipe.
