This is my interpretation of the taco recipe that is currently popular worldwide. If you create them, you’ll realize why it’s causing such a stir. It’s seriously taking off everywhere. To take it to the next level, start with a batch of my Beef Birria and then pair it with some fantastic beef and cheese tacos.

Total Time: 1 hr 5 mins
Servings: 24
Yield: 24 bars

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  2. 1 cup rolled oats
  3. ¾ cup brown sugar
  4. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  5. ¼ teaspoon salt
  6. ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted
  7. 1 cup crushed chocolate toffee pieces (such as Heath®)
  8. 30 individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
  9. 7 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  10. 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt together in a large bowl. Stir in butter until evenly incorporated. Press mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form crust.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until crust is firm and lightly golden, about 10 minutes. Sprinkle toffee pieces on top; spread evenly with a spatula as they melt over the hot crust.
  4. Melt caramels in a saucepan over medium-low heat, about 5 minutes. Stir in heavy cream until smooth.
  5. Pour melted caramel sauce over toffee layer. Sprinkle pecans on top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven until edges are golden, about 15 minutes. Cool until set, 15 to 20 minutes. Cut into bars.
  7. Omit salt if using salted butter.

These are just ok. Caramel filling stuck to sides of pan making it tricky to cut. The crust just barely holds together. Should be more solid. I managed to cut squares but not easily. I wish they were more solid and held together better.

This is such an awesome recipe, everyone in my family loved it! It was easy and satisfied the needs of my caramel-nut-chocolate loving family. One suggestion I have who anyone who really loves chocolate is to add fudge frosting to the top. It adds a great extra chocolate flavor, without taking away from the original flavors.

These are easy and tasty. I used salted butter and kept the salt in and I am glad I did.. these are very sweet. Next time I think I’ll cut back on the caramel to see if I can tone it down a bit. Kids would love these..
