Not soggy added cranberries and used pecans instead of walnuts.
I thought this was a good basic recipe. I did substitute 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar. I used coconut oil and butter instead of the vegetable oil. Just half of each to equal the 1 and 1/4 cup of vegetable oil. I added cinnamon and freshly grated nutmeg. No nuts but did add raisins. So much better the second day. Keeping this recipe to make again for sure.
Other than overcooking it, it turned out OK.
Amazing!!! Made it in a Bundt pan, made 1/2 recipe for glaze and added chopped walnuts and cinnamon to it before boiling. Drizzled over entire cake with a tablespoon. Turned out beautifully. Unsure how some people are tasting graininess from brown sugar when it dissolves during the boiling process for that 2 1/2 minutes. Mine was smooth and cinnamon-caramel yumminess. Will definitely make again. Thank you for the recipe.
So good
I misplaced the apple cake recipe I had gotten from an apple orchard many years ago. I took a chance on this recipe because the picture looked just like what I remember…and it did not disappoint. It was moist and delicious, just like my old recipe. I made it for a friend, and now she wants the recipe too. A yummy fall treat!
Excellent recipe, I made a couple minor changes since I am not a fan of walnuts in anything baked. I substituted the walnuts with raisins and passed on the glaze. The cake was a hit all around, I’ve saved this one for future use.
I don’t like it, too oily, yuk.
So simple and easy. Always a huge hit, although I never add the nuts.
It was a little work to it but it was delicious. It was well worth it.
Delicious! I needed a dessert idea for apples that wasn’t another pie/crumble and this was just what I wanted! I read many reviews and decided to follow the most popular modifications; I used 3/4 cup of unsweetened apple sauce and 1/2 cup of oil, reduced the sugar to 1 1/2 cups, and added a whole tablespoon of cinnamon and 1 teaspoon of nutmeg. The cake came out very moist and the density was really similar to banana bread. I was worried that the glaze would be too rich, but it was perfect! Don’t skip the glaze!
I followed the recipe as it was but had golden delicious apples left over from applesauce so I used those and didn’t add nuts as a friend is allergic to them. My friends, family and coworkers thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely make this again!!!
I made this for Rosh Hashanah. Everyone loved it. My family said it reminded them of bread pudding.
I reduced the sugar and oil by 1/4 cup, each (made me feel better without being noticed in the cake), and everyone loved it!
Make sauce during baking so it can cool a bit.
I added cinnamon & nutmeg
I took this cake to my church and everyone loved it. It’s easy to make to thank you
Made this cake yesterday. Ate first piece while still warm and another piece today. Enjoyed both warm and cold. Very good. Moist and a hint of sweet/buttery flavor from the glaze. I like cakes that don’t require frosting. This is a 5star cake
Rich but amazing. Husband and my company raced about it and my husband is already asking for it again! May substitute part applesauce for oil next time.
Made for my sister’s birthday party. Rave reviews from the family. Definitely will make again.
Loved this recipe, will be adding this to my Christmas baking!
