In this ice cream “pizza” dish, devil’s food cake mix is converted into a cookie crust, which is then covered with ice cream and your preferred toppings. For your subsequent ice cream party, save the leftover cake mix, or double the recipe and bake two at once!

Ingredients
- ½ (15.25 ounce) package devil’s food cake mix
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 pinch flaked salt (Optional)
- 1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened at room temperature for 20 minutes
- ½ cup chopped walnuts, or more to taste
- ⅓ cup hot fudge, or more to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Make the crust: Mix cake mix, oil, and egg together in a large bowl until well blended. Fold in chocolate chips. Pour mixture into the center of the prepared baking sheet, and use your fingers to form it into a 1/4-inch thick circle, about 9 inches in diameter. Sprinkle with flaked salt.
- Bake in the preheated oven until set, 14 to 16 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and firmly knock the bottom of the baking sheet on the counter to remove any extra air from crust. Let cool on the baking sheet for at least 30 minutes. Transfer to a large plate or platter.
- Beat softened ice cream in a bowl with an electric mixer until consistency is similar to soft serve.
- Use an offset spatula or knife to spread ice cream over cooled crust. Place into the freezer until firm, about 30 minutes.
- Slice “pizza” into 8 slices. Top each slice with walnuts and hot fudge.
- Have fun and be creative with toppings. Use at least one topping and one sauce, but the sky’s the limit — you can do whatever sounds delicious. Hot fudge and M&M’S are an easy winner. Some other great combos are hot fudge and Spanish peanuts; salted caramel and crushed Oreos; and raspberry purée, chopped chocolate, and toasted almonds, just to name a few!
- Or better yet, make a little buffet of options and let everyone top their very own ice cream “pizza” slices.

It was delicious but the texture was not very good and it was very messy
Total hit with my 11 year old at her birthday!
Mmm!!
Yum!! I’ll definitely make this again. BethK
Yummy desert!! Just make sure that you don’t make it too watery and not too fluffy or else you won’t be able to put the ice cream on top. I had to cut the top off and put it back in the oven. Other wise yummy!! You should also top it with crushed chocolate chip cookies!!
First time I made this it worked out perfectly! Super easy and delicious! I loved how the crust wasn’t super hard or too crunchy, even after being frozen. It ended up being almost fudge line in consistency. I topped the ice cream with chopped up Heath bar candy and then drizzled with hot fudge and a little whipped cream for each slice. This time I made it slightly different. Instead of the chocolate chips, I used peanut butter chips and topped the ice cream with chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups. Can’t wait to try it!
