Homemade Banana Split

An enjoyable homemade banana split that is great for the whole family or just you.

Ingredients

  1. 3 (1/4 cup) scoops vanilla ice cream, or to taste
  2. 2 almonds, chopped
  3. 1 fresh strawberry, sliced
  4. 1 banana, sliced
  5. 3 maraschino cherries
  6. 2 tablespoons whipped cream, or to taste (Optional)
  7. 2 tablespoons strawberry syrup, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Place ice cream scoops in a row in an oblong dish. Sprinkle almonds around the ice cream, then strawberry slices, and then banana slices. Place 1 cherry on top of each ice cream ball except the middle one. Put whipped cream on the middle ice cream scoop and top with remaining cherry. Drizzle with strawberry syrup.

It’s great, but as a previous employee of Dairy Queen (66 years ago), a banana split should have three different toppings on each of the three dollops of frozen cream. Unless the customer wanted theirs personalized, we put on strawberry, pineapple and chocolate.

What’s not to love about a banana split. I used a combo of vanilla and strawberry ice cream and added some chocolate syrup.
