Ingredients
- 1 cup white sugar
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ¾ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
- Cream sugar and butter together in a large bowl using an electric mixer until pale and fluffy, 6 to 7 minutes. Beat in eggs, 1 at a time. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Combine flour and baking powder in a separate bowl. Add to butter mixture and mix well. Stir in milk until batter is smooth. Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 30 minutes.

This recipe is so delicious! A friend needed a cake for her son’s birthday and this is the recipe I decided to go with. So glad I did! I will definitely be using this as my go-to recipe for cakes and cupcakes from now on. PS: it sounds like someone may have forgotten to add the milk at the end. It did remind me of the cookie dough I make, until I added the milk.
This recipe is atrocious. The “batter” is the consistency of cookie dough. It doesn’t fill the pans. It doesn’t even rise when baked. You ruined my birthday.
