This apple cobbler is wonderful. My son frequently wants it as a birthday treat rather than cake!

I loved that it was such a simple recipe. Although I was surprised that there wasn’t any butter in the recipe and it seemed pretty plain. I substituted brown sugar for the 1 cup of granulated sugar and reduced the amount to 3/4 cup. I added about 1/3 cup of frosted flakes to the flour mixture, added some nutmeg and drizzled about 1/4 cup of butter on top the last 8 minutes of baking. It was delicious. Will make again!
I liked this recipe! I made 2 pans for a family get together, and besides prepping the apples it was really easy, I take a star away because the amount of sugar this recipe calls for is too much in my opinion, for my second pan, I used probably 2/3 cup sugar total between the topping and coating for apples, and a lot more cinnamon, it came out great and was super tasty with vanilla icecream
So easy
I used frozen apples that I collected fresh last fall. I also grated some cold butter on the top and added some granulated sugar for the last 10 minutes or so. Made for a nice crunch topping. Very good and best of all no oatmeal in this!!
I doctored this A LOT! I added spices to the batter. I added butter and vanilla. I added fresh lemon juice to each layer of my apples and baked it at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. It was delicious! I’ve made it 3 times and friends are now placing orders. I basically used an altered version of a Southern peach cobbler recipe. The one above was too plain for my tastes. I added more cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and 2 eggs to the batter. Maybe, I created a whole new recipe in the end but I give credit to this baker for the basic idea!! THANKS for a new holiday favorite. I made this for a friend who was grieving the loss of his wife. This was his first Thanksgiving without her. This recipe made it possible for me to cheer up his whole holiday! Thank you so much! Food heals! Happy holidays to all!!!
Tasted great
Thought the one to one ratio of flour to sugar made the topping too sweet. May try 1 1/2 cups flour to 1/2 cup sugar next time.
Very quick and easy to make. After reading several comments, especially those that talked about raw flour on the top, I decided to mix my topping ingredients and ladle it on top, then gently spread it out. I also added pats of butter to the topping, I used a 7 x 11 x 3 casserole dish. To save on the cost of propane gas, I baked my cobbler in my NuWave oven, one 350º for 20 minutes, using the extender ring and setting the dish on a 1″ rack. I sneaked a little taste from the very corner of the dish, and it was amazing. Definitely a keeper. Sandie
It is a keeper recipe!! Put some vanilla bean ice cream on it and perfectly yummy!!!
I make this once per week, now. Really easy and good.
Someone else put butter on top (the final oven minutes) and so did I. Butter is always good. This is so moist, tasty and flavorful, easy. Perfect. My adult son who never comments much on food exclaimed that it was great, almost too good. He loves it and so do I. Very glad to have this recipe.
Great recipe. Perfect amount of sweet and tart. At the last 5 minutes, I melted 4 tablespoons of butter and drizzled over the top. This made the crumbly crust perfect.
Easy and fast. Great for a quick dessert.
Very easy and really delicious. I think that the addition of the egg in the batter makes it so tasty. Also it doesn’t have oats which so many recipes do and my son does not like. I used Cortland apples. This was so much easier than making an apple pie. I wanted something different than the Christmas cookies we have; picked up apples on the way home and at 5:00 p.m. put it together and into the oven for after dinner. I put squirt whipped cream on mine. Thanks, Elaine.
A very comforting recipe! Will make again!
9.28.21 If I make this again, I’ll split the sugar between white and brown sugar. I think what I was missing the most was a little butter. Even if you just dot the top of the flour with some small pieces of butter, it would brown up better. There’s really not enough water sprinkled over the top to moisten the flour, and what you end up with is a topping with splotches of white flour…not very appealing to the eye. I baked an extra 7 minutes and still didn’t get that golden brown color. I stopped there because I didn’t want to risk drying out the delicious juice from the apples. On the positive side, it really is extremely easy to make (particularly if you have an apple peeler and a wedger/slicer), and it does taste good. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
