Yield: 1 – 9×5 inch loaf pan

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
  2. 1 cup water
  3. ½ cup butter
  4. 1 cup white sugar
  5. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  6. 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  7. 1 egg, beaten

A definite winner! I made the recipe exactly as written. It was very easy to make, and is so moist and delicious. I’ll definitely be making this often.

I added cinnamon and all spice plus subbed some brown sugar for white. The taste is delicious but it was very crumbly (not dry). Anyone know how to help with the crumbing? Will make this many times!

We loved it!! Made it for Valentine’s Day and it was delicious. I baked it only for 45 mins though instead of the 50-60 mins .

Made this gluten free using Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour. It turned out fantastic. Thank you so much. It was moist and so yummy. The flavor was amazing. Will make this again.

It was excellent– albeit too sweet for our taste even after I reduced the sugar to ¾ cup. Next time I make this cake (and I will!) I will only add 2/3rds of a cup of sugar. This one is an absolute keeper!

SO GOOD. One thing that happened the first time I made it, was that the outside was a bit more crispy than my liking. It is probably my oven. So i recommend putting a timer at 45 mins and checking the loaf then. Just in case your oven is also a bit stronger than others. Other than that, amazing recipe.

It was delicious and nutty. I made this during the covid so I had to make 2 substitutions. The first was the baking soda, i had to use 1 tbsp of baking powder, and I was out of vanilla extract so I used almond. It was a dense cake but lots of flavor. Made it for Easter breakfast to go with coffee.

The best….simple to make and delicious !!! a must keep. Reduced the sugar to 3/4 Cup instead of 1 cup and added 1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon and 1/2 tbs all spice. When it came out of the oven I made holes with a knife and put some sauce on top and left the rest to pour it over the slice. Try it…

Tastes good, the texture is nice. I love that it has a nice butterscotchy taste to it.

This came out fabulous. The caramel sauce is wonderful, but if you aren’t into sweets like that, the bread definitely can stand on it’s own. Very good recipe. Definitely a keeper.

I was a banana nut bread lover now It’s. Date nut bread. Great recipe so much you can do with it . Unbelievably moist. I used dried dates and walnuts. I’ll be making this on a regular basis.

I was looking for a recipe like my mom used to make as I didn’t get her recipe. And this is very similar. I left out the nuts and added raisins. Boiled them up with the dates so they’d be nice and plump. I also added a teaspoon each of cinnamon and nutmeg. I just serve it as is or with some butter smeared on the slice. Haven’t ever tried it with a sauce.

It turned out great. Moist and soft. I didn’t make the sauce. It tastes great without the sauce topping as well.

It was easy to make and delicious, but I plan to look for a nutritious version.
