The butter bean dish from the South is just how Mamaw used to prepare them! These beans are a genuine Southern comfort food thanks to the bacon, cream, and lots of butter.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup butter, softened
  2. 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  3. ⅔ cup white sugar
  4. 4 eggs
  5. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  6. ½ teaspoon salt
  7. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  8. 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
  9. 1 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar
  10. ¾ cup butter, softened
  11. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 10 1/2×15 1/2-inch baking pan and line with waxed paper.
  2. Beat 1 cup butter, brown sugar, and white sugar together in a bowl using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy; add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition until smooth. Mix 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and salt into creamed butter mixture. Gradually stir flour into creamed butter until just incorporated; fold 1 cup chocolate chips into batter. Spread batter into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until lightly browned on the edges, 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and cool completely.
  4. Melt remaining 1 cup chocolate chips in the top of a double boiler over simmering water, stirring frequently and scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula to avoid scorching. Beat confectioners’ sugar and 3/4 cup butter together in a bowl using an electric mixer until smooth; add melted chocolate and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and mix until frosting is smooth. Spread frosting over cooled cookie cake.

Normally Allrecipes is my go to for almost anything I cook. This recipe for me is definitely one star! This recipe does not even come close to cookie cake status, it is more like cake batter and after baked is more like a cake. Look elsewhere for a better recipe if you truly want a cookie cake. Side note, the ingredients still taste delicious, but this recipe did not give me the finished product I wanted.

I was nervous about this recipe, as I prefer my chocolate chip cookies in cookie form but my daughter requested a chocolate chip cookie cake for her birthday. This cake turned out phenomenal. It didn’t taste too sweet and the chocolate chips remained distributed throughout the entire thickness of the cake. It retained its texture for the next day and it baked evenly (although I did need to bake longer than recommended, probably due to extra thickness as I did not have the right size baking pan). It was so easy to put together in a short amount of time and I already had the ingredients on hand. The best part, my daughter loved it and it was delicious; everyone went back for more. I highly recommend this cookie cake!

Moist and delicious

it’s fine if you like dense, very sweet chocolate chip muffies (muffin tops). I won’t be making this again. Too sweet, too dense, and nearly burnt.

Delicious! However, as others have stated, I needed to double the baking time, from 25 minutes to 55 minutes

Made this for my son’s 20th birthday! They loved it. I had a more chocolate chips to the cookie part, but otherwise followed directions exactly.

My son saw on TV people making a cookie cake so he asked me to make him one. I found this recipe. I read other reviews and baked it in a 9×13 dish oiled with peanut oil. It took about 30 minutes. We doubled the chocolate chips in the cake and also pushed some into the top. We didn’t make the frosting. It didn’t need it. Tastes great and we snack on it all day.

Made this for grandson birthday. Used chocolate whipped cream between layers, chocolate glaze on top with some personalized M&M.

Not bad flavor. I would add more chocolate chips next time. Also took 3 times longer than calculated on recipe to cook through.

Keep 2 tbsp of chocolate chips out of batter. Wait until the batter is placed in our pan, then sprinkle chips on top. push chips into batter lightly

Fantastic! Definitely more cake-ish but also like a big soft cookie. Didn’t think it needed frosting and I made it in a 9×13 glass pan so cooking took 35 minutes. I also sprinkled 3/4 of chocolate chips over the top before baking and pressed them lightly in. Will absolutely make it again.
