I doubled the recipe, changed the milk to light cream and double the amount of cream for a creamer texture. Kid approved…

Amazing frosting! We added 1 extra tablespoon of icing sugar and it was perfection. My new go to frosting recipe!

Really good frosting! mine turned out a bit grainy but I dont make frosting very much so maybe I’m suppose to mix it more.. but all in all for flavor a success.

I read the other one-star, and should have listened. I doubled the recipe. The consistency was that of spackle putty. It stuck to the offset spatula and not the cake. The effect was like matte paint, and when you spread it, it was as rough as stucco (I had sifted the p.sugar too). I will drizzle some melted chocolate over this disaster. The taste was totally unremarkable.

I liked it, I liked that it was easy to make with few ingredients. My one advice to other users would be to be patient when mixing the butter and the powdered sugar it takes a while to come together you may think The butter is not enough like I did but it takes a while to actually come together to be light and fluffy. I actually double the recipe and the results were still great thumbs up

Absolutely delicious!! We made it to put on white cake and is awesome. Although it doesn’t make a lot of frosting so we made more. And we melted chocolate chips on stove top on low

family loves it !

I used double the amount of chocolate, and used heavy cream and milk, it seemed a bit thick so I added extra vanilla, cream, and some sour cream until it was smooth and creamy. Tastes great!

it was the best thing ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted something chocolatier. It was too light in color and flavor. The best chocoate frosting recipe (so far) on this site is “The Best Chocolate Frosting” recipe. To make this recipe darker and more flavorful, I used elements of that recipe (added more butter and cocoa powder). It was great – so the two recipes mixed together is also really nice.

Didn’t care for the flavor with the unsweetened chocolate. Redid the recipe with semi-sweet and it was a bit better tasting.

Very nice, not super sweet, frosting. Made exactly by the recipe. You would have to double/triple the recipe for a layer cake. Frosted the top of a 9×13 sheet cake.

Makes a very nice frosting… It spreads very well, and it’s delicious! I would have appreciated knowing how much cake the recipe covers, though. I ended up tripling the recipe for the 9-inch, double-layer cake I made. Worked out perfectly.

I made 16 servings of this frosting for some cupcakes for my moms birthday, and the whole family loved it! I used cocoa powder instead of chocolate squares. Our family likes DARK chocolate, so I decided to add 8 TBSP (1/4 cup) instead of just 3. The more cocoa that I added, the tougher the frosting became. To fix this, I added a total of 5 TBSP of milk. I really liked this recipe and will make it again in a heartbeat.

I made it as directed, although I cut the recipe in half to frost the top only of a 9 x 13 cake. It was easy, and it turned out silky and light. I will make it again!

Excellent flavor and consistency. You will need to double the recipe.

I used 3oz of dark chocolate chips, melted and it turned out great!

Tasty, fluffy icing with a mild chocolate flavor…could easily add more unsweetened chocolate, if a more intense chocolate flavor is desired…
Daniel Edwards
Amazing and easy icing recipe! I didn’t have bakers squares so I used semi sweet chocolate chips. I slowly melted 3 oz in the microwave and it worked perfectly! My go to icing from now on!

I was so excited about the decadence of this buttercream, my first ever attempt, that I almost climbed in the bowl, forsaking my cake plans. 🙂

Won’t make this again. I just didn’t come out great. It didn’t blend well.
