In this delectable cherry, almond, and chocolate extravaganza, caramel apples get dressed up.
Servings: | 6 |
Yield: | 6 apples |
Ingredients
- 6 Granny Smith apples
- 6 wooden sticks
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
- 2 tablespoons water
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups dried cherries
- 1 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- Insert wooden sticks 3/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple. Place apples on a cookie sheet covered with lightly greased aluminum foil. Place the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring between each until chocolate is melted and smooth. Set aside.
- Combine caramels and water in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until caramel melts and is smooth. Stir in the vanilla. Dip each apple into the caramel and gently run apples around insides of saucepan to scrape off some of the caramel. Scrape excess caramel from the apple bottoms using the side of the saucepan.
- Roll apples in mixture of cherries and almonds. Place on the aluminum foil. Use a spoon to drizzle chocolate over the apples. If the chocolate is too thick, thin by mixing with a little vegetable oil. Chill until ready to serve.

Very very good. The fam couldn’t stop eating them
“craisins” work well here too. Just a little tip for newbies out there… store bought apples usually have a wax coating on them to make them shiny. To prevent your caramel from slipping off make sure you scrub that wax off or better yet… go apple picking with your family at an apple orchard and pick your own apples (so much fun and a great holiday tradition!) These caramel apples are good though and my husband prefers them to those covered with chocolate chips, drizzles or anything else that adds anymore sweetness to the apple. UPDATE:: another great topping is macadamia nuts and white chocolate with a milk chocolate drizzle… yum!
tis recipie is so good!!!!!
