Campfire Banana Splits

One of my go-to meals for the week is a quick and simple chicken breast, zucchini, and mushroom dinner that takes less than 30 minutes to prepare.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 8 mins
Total Time: 18 mins
Servings: 6
Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 6 large bananas, unpeeled, stems removed
  2. 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  3. 1 (10.5 ounce) package miniature marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill for high heat.
  2. Spray 4 sheets of aluminum foil, large enough to wrap bananas, with cooking spray.
  3. Slice the peel of the banana from stem to bottom, while slicing the banana inside lengthwise. The bananas can be cut into slices instead if you like, (while still in the peel) for easier handling later.
  4. Carefully open the banana just wide enough to place the chocolate chips and marshmallows inside the peel with the banana. Stuff with as much of the chocolate chips and marshmallows as desired.
  5. Wrap the bananas with the aluminum foil and place on the grill or directly in the coals of a fire. Leave in long enough to melt the chips and the marshmallows, about 5 minutes. Unwrap bananas, open the peels wide, and eat with a spoon.

This is an awesome treat for campfires. Super simple and really delicious. We found that wrapping them in foil helped slow cook them to perfection. I also added Reese’s peanut butter cups to this recipe for some additional goodness. Thanks for the recipe.

Just like at summer camp.

Tasty way to end a barbecue. I used chopped up plain chocolate, peeled a section of skin back to push the chocolate into the sliced banana & stuffed the marshmallows in, then replaced the skin before wrapping in foil. Took 10 minutes directly on the charcoal. Lush.

Fun to make and fun to eat. Very tasty.

These were absolutely FABULOUS!!!! I’m not much for s’mores, but this was amazing. Will most definitely make this again, but I think will try with a little bit of ice cream on the side. They steaming hot banana will blend with the ice cream to perfection!!!

Have made this in the firepit for many years already, 20 to be exact. You can add what ever flavor of chips you desire. Butter scotch, mint, chocolate, peanut butter along with your marshmallows. Remove peel and add vanilla icecream its a favorite.

I am an old Girl Scout. We made these 30 years ago. What an awesome , kid friendly dessert!

First I’ll say that these were great! Secondly, this is for Pat who decided to eat the peel. DONT EAT THE PEEL! Try again, you’ll enjoy them.

This is what we former Girl Scouts called a “BananaBoat.” Easy and delicious! We made it in our campfire, but I guess you could also make it in the oven. Be sure to put it on a cookie sheet, as it might drip down and mess up your stove!

I don’t know what Pat did to get the plastic taste. Should not have been there and most definitely do not eat the banana peel. We used to have these all the time when our girls were in girl scouts. They all loved them. They are a great treat to have all year long. Try them in your fireplace or back yard fire pit too.

I would give this zero stars if possible. I don’t know what I was thinking trying such a terrible recipe.

Much better if you also stick graham crackers on side of banana in peel like a s’mores banana split yummy

It sounds wonderful. I have been told that Girl Scouts may no longer build fires!! Go figure.

These were amazing! We loved them so much, we ate them for breakfast, too!!

These were good and the kids really enjoyed them! They chose to use colored mini marshmallows, which was fun and pretty. We made these on the grill, which worked out great. I make a version of this that uses butter, brown sugar, chocolate chips and coconut (oh, YUM!!!), so I prefer them to these, but the kids liked this version, so I will make them again! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Omg.. is there really a 1 star review where they are the peel? I guess the recipe should say don’t eat the peel, only three stuff inside. I love these! Grew up on them, my kids will too. Add raisins or coconut and they are yum!

As a banana aficionado, I thought this was heavenly. I am sorry it took me this long to discover this easy tasty treat. I left out the marshmallows and put in peanut butter. Sooo good!

Plop a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and it’s AMAZINGGGG

We are avid camping cooks and this did not taste right. We felt the inside tasted more like the banana pith. Sorry, but this one did not suit our taste somehow.

I first learned this 50 years ago at Girl Scout camp. Yes, 50 years ago! Only difference was we used squares of Hershey bars. It made enough of an impression on me that I did it with my friends when we started camping 20 years ago. If at all possible, bring out a glass of cold milk to go with it. Delicious!!!!
