Buttermilk-Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

  4.2 – 5 reviews  • Chocolate

Instead of using sugar, this banana bread is baked with maple syrup. It has a terrific taste, is incredibly moist, and only contains natural ingredients. I prefer using organic ingredients whenever feasible, but anything will do.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 10 mins
Servings: 20
Yield: 4 cups

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  2. 4 cups powdered sugar, or more as needed
  3. ⅔ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  4. 2 teaspoons almond extract
  5. ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  6. ⅛ teaspoon salt
  7. ⅓ cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Cream butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer. Mix in 2 cups powdered sugar, cocoa powder, almond extract, vanilla extract, and salt. Add buttermilk in small amounts until well combined. Add remaining 2 cups powdered sugar.
  2. Do not use margarine or any other substitutions for the butter.
  3. Keep in mind that amounts of milk and powdered sugar can be adjusted according to the desired consistency and yield. I use 6 cups powdered sugar and 1/2 cup buttermilk (give or take 1 to 2 tablespoons) to frost a 3-layer 9-inch round devil’s food cake.

Absolutely ruined my cake. I created an account just to leave this review- super runny, I wouldn’t even qualify it as frosting. More of a glaze IF THAT. I added I don’t know how maybe tablespoons of cornstarch to not avail- ratios are extremely off. Avoid. Save your time

This recipe was spot on and so easy to use! Our kids loved it on yellow cupcakes

Excellent recipe. I cut back the almond extract as another reviewer suggested, and even 1 tsp. gave a fairly strong almond flavour — I would definitely not use 2 tsps. as written. The icing sets up nicely after sitting — still creamy but not sloppy.

Delicious!! Go easy on the almond extract, I added a little extra, but next time I will just keep it exact.
