Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce

  4.6 – 79 reviews  • Bread Pudding Recipes

Even while creating homemade pizza sauce is quite simple, it can be a pain when dinnertime or party preparations are busy. This recipe in bulk enables you to rapidly prepare a sizable amount of sauce in a blender or food processor and freeze discrete portions for future use.

Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Total Time: 1 hr 20 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 1 9×13-inch pudding

Ingredients

  1. 2 ½ cups milk
  2. 2 eggs, beaten
  3. 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  4. 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  5. 3/4 cup white sugar, divided
  6. 1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  7. 1 cup chopped pecans
  8. ½ cup butter
  9. ½ cup heavy cream
  10. ¼ cup whiskey

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix milk, eggs, 3 tablespoons melted butter, and vanilla together in a large bowl until well combined. Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar and mix thoroughly until sugar is dissolved.
  3. Place bread cubes into bottom of the prepared baking dish. Pour milk-egg mixture over top, fully saturating all bread. Sprinkle with pecans.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until golden, about 1 hour.
  5. When bread pudding is almost finished, combine 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup butter, cream, and whiskey in a small saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce is gently boiling.
  6. Remove bread pudding from the oven. Pour sauce over top and serve.

Delicious, just like mia momma used to make. Use Crown Royal Vanilla whiskey, add more raisins or use raisin bread (on sale and stale). I am at “altitude” just below Virginia City, NV so add that extra TBSP of water, we boil at 203 degrees here (allow for it!). Mangia!! Cook, eat, enjoy, repeat!!

Love this bread pudding. The Whiskey sauce was amazing. Took this to a New Years Eve party & everyone loved it, including a person who does not like bread pudding. I read other reviews & did as suggested increasing the milk to 4 cups & added 4 eggs instead of 2. Added about a teaspoon of cinnamon to the milk/egg mixture. I think you could easily customize this recipe. I sprinkled some dried cranberries over the bread before I poured the milk mixture over it. This will be my go to bread pudding from now on.

Lots of compliments on this recipe!

I think I over portioned the bread as the actual bread mixture lacked flavor. The flavor was there and good just very faint. The sauce is divine. I will probably up the recipe up 1/3 next time and use the same amount of bread.

We liked it. I added a little cinnamon just because.

This was delicious! I didn’t have any whiskey, so I used rum instead. I will definitely make it again!

Restaurant style/grade bread pudding. My guests and my family loved it. I skipped the pecans.

Great base recipe. I took the advice of some of the reviewers and added my own twists.

I made this and it was fabulous. I’ve also made it with craisins soaked in rum and with sauce made the same way but using rum instead of whiskey. Also quite wonderful.

The pecans in this recipe put it over the top! I also added in a dash of cinnamon to give it a little spice. Delicious, everyone loved it and came back for seconds

Best bread pudding I’ve had since I can remember. I used Bourbon instead of Whiskey since that was what I had on hand and I also added a pinch or two of cinnamon. Fantastic!

Everyone enjoyed this one!! Definitely use more liquid and add some spice. I used some cinnamon and nutmeg. Definitely doing this again for St Patrick’s Day!!

Use brioche instead of French bread, it’s sweeter and a bit more dense. I took the advice of other reviewers and increased the milk to 3 cups. Also added raisins and cinnamon, delish! Everyone was raving about it.

I had to double the first part with the eggs, sugar, and the milk… Although, I didn’t make any changes to the amount of milk. Butter was double and it made for a deliciously buttery crunch to the French toast pieces! Overall, I really liked it and it was also my first time making this dish! Thanks a lot for the recipe, April.
