Ingredients

  1. 1 cup white sugar
  2. 1 stick butter, melted
  3. 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  4. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  5. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  6. 2 eggs, beaten
  7. ¼ cup bourbon
  8. 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  9. ½ teaspoon baking powder
  10. 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8-inch baking pan.
  2. Stir sugar, melted butter, cocoa powder, oil, and vanilla extract together until smooth. Mix in eggs, then add bourbon.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Add to the cocoa mixture. Smooth batter into the prepared pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until top is dry and edges have started to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 25 minutes. Let cool completely before slicing.

You can definitely taste the bourbon. Batter looked very thin when it was mixed up and popped into the oven. I cut into it when it was warm, so it kind of crumbled apart when I served it from the pan. Hopeful that some more cooling will get these to set a bit better – if not, will add a bit more flour next time .. and there will totally be a next time!

You can’t beat a basic brownie, and adding bourbon only enhances the taste. I did choose to add some melted chocolate chips on top – just a personal preference. This is a great recipe for dessert. To splurge for guests, top with ice cream, hot fudge, caramel sauce and buttered toasted pecans. Yum!
