Blackberry Compote

  4.9 – 13 reviews  • Lemon Dessert Recipes

Use fresh blackberries to make this straightforward blackberry compote! Although it has a chunky texture, you may smooth it out by mashing the berries with a fork or potato masher. The flavors in the compote become more intense the longer it simmers. Serve it with yogurt, porridge, ricotta toast, crepes, ice cream, or crêpes.

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups fresh blackberries
  2. ¼ cup white sugar
  3. 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  4. 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Combine blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, and salt in a saucepan. Toss to coat and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer until sauce has reduced and thickened slightly, 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat and cool for a few minutes before serving, or refrigerate for later use; it will thicken further as it cools.
  4. If you prefer a more tart taste, use
  5. 2 tablespoons of sugar instead of 1/4 cup.

Easy peezy and delicious. I have a bunch of frozen berries from previous harvest. This was a delicious way to use some. Recipe easy to follow. I used my emulsion mixer near the end to assist in thickening. I don’t usually like blackberries, but this was really good. Delightful on my waffles

I used a little more lemon since I freeze it in ice cube trays, and a splash of water. Delicious over cheesecake or by itself!

I like mine a little less sweet and more tart so I did the less sugar suggestion. I made shortcakes and did vanilla icecream and warm compote over it. Yummy!!!

Great with vanilla yogurt, vanilla ice cream, lemon verbena ice cream, waffles…so far that’s what I’ve tried it on! Quick and easy to make. Hardest part is picking the blackberries! : D

Easy, quick. Put compote on top of French Toast with whip cream. Delicious! Had a little extra and plan to put on ice cream or English muffins. Would definitely make again especially when the berries are on sale at the grocery.
