This was really good. It seemed like a ton of sugar so I left out about a tablespoon but I think I should have just put it in because it wasn’t too sweet. I did sprinkle about 1/4 cup of sugar over the blackberries and let them sit in a bowl for about 10 mins. I think that helped to sweeten them. Then I put them on top of the batter and sprinkled the remaining sugar on top. This was good but tasted better the 2nd day. I was searching for a good cobbler recipe. I don’t think I’ll look any further.
This was a very easy recipe to put together. Quick and simple. Rating 4 stars because for me at least, it was a bit too sweet. This even in the face of the fact that the blackberries that I had were pretty tart. I may cut the sugar a little bit next time. But we did enjoy it, with fresh whipped cream. Maybe the sweetness led us to consume smaller portions! I’d try it again for sure.
Neither me or my husband cared for it. I”t was too cake-ish. The batter didnt have much flavor. Wont be making again
I didn’t change a thing, but, like others, was a little worried when I put it in the oven, it really looked like a watery mess. But, the final result was perfect! Easy and good. Just what we needed for our booming blackberry season. Thank you!
I did not like the texture at all.
It was ok. Definitely not your normal cobbler. I won’t be making it again. I will try a different recipe next time.
Had to use peaches with the blackberries because I didn’t hae enough. It came out great and will make again. I will def add vanilla next time.
I made the recipe as written other than adding 1/2 tsp of vanilla and cutting the water in half. My husband and grandson ate the entire pan!! It is a keeper.
Love this recipe! It will be all gone today!!
I made this again with strawberries & apricots. I used 1/2 c. wheat flour & 1/2 c. white flour. Instead of just milk in the batter, I subbed 1/2 the amount with buttermilk. I also use butter, not margarine. I added a teaspoon of vanilla to the milk mixture before I poured it into the batter. Only other change–used a 1/2 c of brown sugar, instead of white to sprinkle over the berries before baking. Overall, it was much more flavorful. The recipe is very easy & can be used with pretty much any fruit, if you know what flavorings to add.

Delicious! I used fresh dewberries and added 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon. Used butter instead of margarine. Combining the suggestion of another reviewer with this recipe, I mixed the butter, 1/2 c. sugar, water, and berries in a pan and brought to a boil. I mixed 1/4 c. sugar with the batter and sprinkled 1/4 cup sugar over the top.
Hands down the BEST cobbler recipe.
This is an easy recipe. I reduced the water to 1/2 cup. It was nice & crispy brown in just 45 minutes. Next time I’ll add more berries, at least 3 cups total , maybe add some raspberries for added flavor. Great with ice cream. definitely will make again.
It was overall a good recipe. I only take issue with how gummy parts of it turned out… Otherwise it was a hit with the family.
I was worried about pouring the water overtop at the end, before baking (plus felt another 1/2 c of sugar was too much so used less), but popped it into the oven with my fingers crossed and hoped for the best… 🙂 Turned out alright! Yay! 🙂
This was pretty good. My husband loved it. Very easy recipe to follow…seems odd to pour water over but magic happens in the oven. I made it vegan using unsweetened almond milk and Miyoko’s dairy-free butter.
I made twice, second time was the best. Instead of using the last half cup of sugar at the end, I sprinkled on berries and let it marinate with the berries for 20 min.It completely transformed the recipe into a thick saucey bottom of berry goodness. Id definitely do this every time ! Was so so good. Thanks for recipe!!
Very good. Very easy to make. I used a bit more than 2 cups of berries.
made it without sugar, not bad at all.
I followed the recipe exactly and ended up with a grayish gelatin layer at the bottom. Not pleasant and not what I want to happen to a dessert at Easter. Won’t be making this one again.
