Banana Cream Pie with Pudding

  4.5 – 384 reviews  • No-Bake Pie Recipes

I modified a recipe for tuna salad that I discovered. Because it is so delicious, my husband, who is a very picky eater, frequently asks for it! Enjoy and congratulate yourself for eating a nutritious dinner.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Additional Time: 3 hrs
Total Time: 3 hrs 15 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 1 9-inch pie

Ingredients

  1. 1 (9 inch) baked pie crust
  2. 3 medium bananas, divided
  3. 2 ½ cups cold milk
  4. 2 (3.5 ounce) packages instant vanilla pudding mix
  5. 2 cups frozen whipped topping, thawed, divided

Instructions

  1. Slice two bananas; arrange banana slices in a single layer to cover bottom of pie crust.
  2. Pour cold milk into a medium bowl. Add pudding mix and whisk until thoroughly combined. Fold in 1/2 cup whipped topping; pour into crust over bananas. Refrigerate until firm, at least 3 hours.
  3. When ready to serve, spread remaining whipped topping over pie. Slice remaining banana and arrange over topping.

Mindy & Tessa We used lemon juice to prevent the bananas from turning brown . We used “Silk 2%Next milk” 1 1/4 cups instead of whatever was recommended. We used a small box of instant banana cream pudding. 1/2 container Cool Whip and crushed a whole banana . Beat it all together with mixer. Poured it all in a pre made Shortbread crust.

Pie has been in the fridge for about 16 hours and it’s not set up at all. Still completely runny. And I even used less milk that the recipe called for because I read others’ comments which suggested that. Really disappointing.

Mine never set to a firm pie consistency, more like a dense pudding. I believe the addition of the whipped topping adds too much liquid to the pudding. Next time I am cutting milk by half a cup to allow for the 1/2 cup whipped topping. That should solve the problem. Other changes: used graham cracker crust, which was a great compliment to the pudding mix. Instead of fussing with (darkening) bananas on top, I sprinkled sweetened, shredded coconut.

Incredibly easy and delicious. Use those bananas before throwing them out.

I found it to be very good I used 1 box of vanilla and 1 box of banana pudding and 1 1/2 cups of milk and my family loved it !!! Making it again now. A great dessert!!!

This might be my feelings on banana cream pie more than this recipe in general, but I just found the whole thing so unexciting. Maybe I should’ve used banana pudding instead of vanilla. The crust part also felt like a hassle and I would’ve rather just done a standard banana pudding, or maybe constructed something like a trifle. Also, I used a regular frozen pie crust, but definitely this recipe means the deep dish style. With a regular crust I only needed a half recipe of the filling.

I used 1 French vanilla, and 1 banana cream instant pudding, 3.4 size ,I only used 2 cups of milk not the2.5 cups in the recipe and the half cup of cool whip, and bananas in the bottom,it came out very good and it didn’t get runny ,next time I think a little less milk maybe 1&3/4 and maybe a little more cool whip folded in,I did let the pudding set in the fridge about 10 minutes before I put it in the crust .very happy with the pie nice and cool for the summer

Made it EXACTLY as recipe was typed. EXCELLENT! Everyone said so much better than when one uses a banana pudding for the filling. The perfect balance of flavors. Making it again right now!!!

Easy and delicious! My daughter and I made this today for our large 3-generation family Sunday dinner. Small kids and adults all loved it. We used 4 bananas instead of 3, and real whipped cream instead of frozen topping.

Fantastic recipe, followed some other reviews & added banana extra to the pudding for extra flavor. I did not measure when I added the cool whip, I went for consistency I wantex

I love this recipe, so easy. But I actually add a whole ripe banana into the pudding mix once it thickens a bit, then I fold in the whipped topping. It gives the pie a better banana flavour. Yummy

Thank you for sharing this great recipe! This was my first time making banana cream pie and this was pretty easy to follow the directions and it tasted even better than some we’ve gotten from the store. I did read many of the reviews and followed some of their suggestions. Like a previous reviewer had mentioned, make sure you are using INSTANT pudding mix and NOT the cook & serve pudding mix. I’m glad I read that review and realized I was about to use the wrong one! Like some reviewers mentioned, I also opted to use 1 box instant vanilla pudding & 1 box instant banana pudding. I followed the directions in this recipe instead of following those on the pudding box. I also used the electric mixer to beat the pudding instead of a wisk. I also followed a reviewers suggestion to dip the banana slices in lemon juice and blot dry with a paper towel so that they wont turn brown. Great idea – Thank you! I lined the bottom of the cooled pie crust (i used a store bought pie crust) with the banana slices and also folded in slices of 1 small banana into the pudding mixture to add real banana inside the pie. On top of the cool whip topping, i sliced the last banana (also dipped in lemon juice & blotted dry with a paper towel) and added slivered almonds. Everyone LOVED it! So good! Thank you!!

Very good. Used electric mixer to mix the pudding and added half of a banana to the pudding mix and slightly less milk. Also dipped the bananas in lemon juice as another reviewer suggested. Everything worked out.
