My great aunt Betty developed this luscious banana pudding recipe. It tastes incredibly good. Excellent for barbecues or when guests are over.

Prep Time: 25 mins
Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 10
Yield: 1 9×13-inch dish

Ingredients

  1. 2 (3.4 ounce) packages instant vanilla pudding mix
  2. 1 cup milk
  3. 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  4. 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
  5. 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  6. 6 bananas, sliced
  7. ½ (12 ounce) package vanilla wafers

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine pudding mix and milk and stir until mix is dissolved. Refrigerate 15 minutes, until partially set.
  2. Stir condensed milk into pudding mixture until smooth. Fold in sour cream and whipped topping. Fold in bananas.
  3. Make a single layer of vanilla wafers in the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish. Spread pudding evenly over wafers. Crush remaining wafers and sprinkle on top. Refrigerate until serving.

Great Classic recipe, Only Problem is you can NO LONGER GET VANILLA WAFERS (‘Nilla wafers) They dont make them anymore! So not quite sure what to substitute this with. Anyone have any Ideas? Also can’t find the chocolate wafers either!, Upsetting as this just makes so many of my recipes obsolete.

This recipe is so great that it is highly sought after. I get so many compliments and everyone loves it. Also, plenty of requests for a copy of the recipe. Everyone should have this in their 5☆ file.

Whenever I want a no cook banana pudding, I always make this recipe with no bananas… so I guess you could call it cookie pudding but either way I LOVE it! It’s super rich a small serving goes a long way.

This is very good! I made it exactly like the recipe. I will be making this many more times!

Oh my goodness…this was amazing! I wouldn’t change a thing about this recipe, it is perfect as written. The pudding was thick and rich and we loved it. No need to worry about the bananas turning dark, it’ll be eaten before that can happen it’s so good. If you prefer the vanilla wafers to have a more soft/soggy texture, make it the day before.

Aunt Betty lost huge points with me when I read the instant pudding part. Real banana pudding from scratch with milk, egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla flavoring is not that hard to make. Save the egg whites to make a meringue.

I love this recipe. I lost it and just found it again.

I added more vanilla flavoring… I did not fold in the bananas I layered them. I did 3 layers with the cookies, pudding mixture and bananas…last layer of pudding mixture I put a layer of cookies and some crushed up cookie crumbs…

It’s a bit rich with the sweetened condensed milk. I think I’ll try one that doesn’t use that.

I recently discovered this scrumptious dessert at a church social event. It’s a crowd favorite so I made it for the first time today. The recipe is great made with low fat condensed milk and low fat sour cream. I think it will be a family favorite for many years to come! Thank you Aunt Betty.

Oh yeah…will be making it again, and again and again! Only thing I did different is added a tablespoon of vanilla. Melt in your mouth goodness! Didn’t want to share after I licked the spoon!
