Loved it! As soon as we finished it, my husband asked me to make it again. Did divide into 2 smaller loaf pans which worked well for us. Also added more apples
My family and I liked this a lot. I opted to double the recipe for two loaves. I decided to use three medium Granny Smiths, which seemed to work out perfectly for my two loaves. I did add 3/4t salt per other reviews The main issue with this recipe is the bake time. It was not even close to done at 40 min, and actually required one hour.
The cake came out moist but the sponge was a little bland on its own. There shoud be a way that the apples are submerged. If it makes sense.
i like this recipe. as everyone said it should add a pinch of salt.
Moist and delicious!
I make this about once a month, it is a family favorite. I always double it and bake in a 9 x 13 pan and use ~ 6 small apples.
Unbelievably delicious cake. Modified in this way: Doubled the apples, cinnamon, and vanilla. Added a little more sugar, 1/2 tsp of salt (on other recommendations) Also added walnut pieces and raisons to the cinnamon/brown sugar mixture. Used a 9×13 pan. Don’t worry if it looks too thin when you spread the cake batter, it grows to the most amazing light coffee cake with many goodies baked into it. A super crowd pleaser. This will be my #1 cake. Hubs said don’t ever make any other cake, this one is the only he will ever want.
Just needs salt to be 5 stars! Very moist and yummy otherwise. Will definitely make this again. I’d also increase cooking time to 50 minutes.
I have made this now 4 times. Its great. I use a loaf pan and slice it and pop in the freezer. Perfect for a treat. I added some jam in the middle to use it up and will use this with other fruit and stuff in future. It works and is easy to do. Perfect. UK based so get a little confused about cups! Knowing the weight would be super helpful!
Not bad, but woukd not make again. It just was missing something for me. It was just okay to me.
A light basic cake that’s versatile. I made it in a 7 1/2″x9 3/4″ pan and I used blueberries. It came out delicious!
Even though the recipe forgot to include salt, and the baking time was way off, I still gave it 5 stars because it was delicious. I added 1/2 tsp of salt, used cinnamon applesauce instead of oil, and added 2 apples and LOTS of walnuts and raisins. – This took 1 hr and 5 min in my oven, not 30 to 40 like the recipe says. Totally delicious though! Its a keeper for sure.
Hands down best cake i’ve ever made. Which is great cause i’m a horrible baker.
Really liked recipe I used almond flour because that was what I had and I added some walnuts. I used a square pan instead of loaf again because what I had. It was extremely moist. It would not cut in a slice it was more crumbles but we just scooped and ate with a spoon. Was just as good. Not sure why I am not a baker but will definitely make again. Maybe with a little less sugar
Came out well. I added some chopped walnuts to the second application of sugared apples and was glad I did. They always add a nice textural difference.
Amazing! Bombed it the first time, didn’t bake long enough, but it was so good we ate it with a spoon. Next time, success! I omitted 1/4 of the sugar, didn’t notice.
So moist !
It’s wonderfully moist and delicious!!!!
The flavor was very nice but the cake was a bit dry. I might suggest adding a half cup more apples, chopping the apples a little smaller and mixing them a little more into the cake so that their moisture will be a little more dispersed and make for moister cake.
This was good not great. I was surprised at the lack of flavor in just the cake part. Any bites where you get some of the streusel was good. I would suggest swirling in the middle and the top streusel part to incorporate it more into the cake. It was easy, quick, and convenient in that all the ingredients are ones that you typically have on hand but not something I would be excited to make.
I followed the recipe. It took closer to an hour to cook. It was yummy! I will add salt and possibly an additional apple next time.
