Apple Brownies

  4.5 – 414 reviews  • Apple Dessert Recipes

a basic country bread in the tradition of Europe. Just enough whole wheat is used to give it taste, but not enough to make it heavy. To add more flavor, I use an overnight beginning.

Prep Time: 25 mins
Cook Time: 35 mins
Total Time: 1 hr
Servings: 12

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup white sugar
  2. ½ cup butter, melted
  3. 1 large egg
  4. 3 medium apples – peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  5. ½ cup chopped walnuts
  6. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  7. ¼ teaspoon salt
  8. ½ teaspoon baking powder
  9. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  10. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Beat sugar, melted butter, and egg in a large bowl with an electric mixer until fluffy. Fold in the apples and walnuts. Sift flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon together in a separate bowl; stir into apple mixture until just blended. Spread batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 35 minutes.

They were so easy to make, and they were a big hit. Will be making again. I used tart apples, with the amount of sugar to the recipe it was a perfect match. Thanks for the recipe

This recipe is Amazing!!

Super easy to make and tastes good! Winner in our house! be sure to use medium apples, if apples are large, maybe go with just two.

Great recipe, very easy and had most items in the pantry. I did add extra spices, vanilla, allspice, ginger, nutmeg and cloves. It turned out great, super moist and buttery taste!

A brownie by any other name tastes just as sweet. The combo apples and nuts did it for me. I cubed the apples as another reviewer suggested. I think next time throwing in some dried cranberries into the mix might work as well. Thanks for the recipe.

This is AMAZING!! I chopped the apples, as well. I doubled the recipe and put it in a 9 × 13 casserole dish. I knew I needed more than a single batch! I found that I needed to cook it longer than the 35 minutes. I ended up cooking it a total of probably 50 minutes. I wanted the crust a little crisper. I found that I can cut pieces off and pick it up to eat it. It’s messy though lol, but it’s possible. Thank you for this amazing recipe! I hope people realize that most of us can adjust for our own preferences. I appreciate you sharing a family recipe with all of us ??

Very good will make many more times

I made this exactly as per the recipe and directions and wouldn’t change a thing! The original baker’s description is accurate- they are very moist and soft. Would I say it’s more like a cake? No- it is way more dense than cake, and I think brownie is a fair title for it. I made these to use up some apples and have a treat to send with the hunters in my family but they might not last long enough to make that trip. They’re delicious!

Definitely more of a “BLONDIE” as there is no chocolate inside… but SO DELICIOUS. (Perhaps they took the ‘brownie pan’ literally with that naming.) The sponge is moist and flavorful – the perfect amount of Cinnamon. We love to top ours with a scoop of Vanilla Bean ice cream. MAKE IT – YOU WON’T BE SAD!

This was tasty! We had macoun apples, they’re big so I chopped up 2. Switched sugar for 3/4 white and 1/4 cup brown, baked for about 45 minutes, it smells heavenly and tastes good

This is a keeper. My husband said don’t lose that recipe you have to make this again real soon.

Had overripe Granny Smiths and came across this recipe. Read the reviews and tried with half cup sugar, apples cut into chunks and no walnuts because I didn’t have any. Topped it with cinnamon brown sugar and baked it in a loaf pan for about 45mins. Had an overall nice muffin-y texture with a slight crispy top. Would make it again.

I only had a 8 x 8 pan, so that’s what I used. I did not adjust the cooking time and they came out more like a cake than a brownie, but they were delicious!

I wanted to use up some apples and found this in my google search. It turned out PERFECT! My boyfriend raved over them and asked if he could take some home with him! I chopped the apples instead of slicing and used a 7×12 inch pan, but otherwise stuck to the recipe. The 35 minute baking time was spot on. Very moist and flavorful, with deliciously crispy, almost caramelized edges. I would not top this with more sugar as some have suggested in their comments. For me, that would be too sweet. They are not dense bars like a normal brownie, but more spongy, with a wonderful mouthfeel. My yield was 15 bars.

Hi

LOVED IT. I made a diabetic friendly version. 1/4 cup white sugar, add 3/4 cups unsweetened applesauce and Splenda to taste. Also doubled the cinnamon and added 1/4 tsp allspice.

As is, without any changes, I really liked it and mostly everyone else. The kids wanted it sweeter, but hey, they’re kids so of course they are looking for something super sweet haha. Overall it went over well with the adults and older kids!

Wonderful recipe thank you for sharing! It has the texture of brownies but the moisture & flav of apples. I suggest doubling the recipe because they don’t last for long they are so delicious!

These are so delicious and easy. They work very well baked in a mini muffin tin. Great with vanilla ice cream or such. At first I thought there were way to many apples in the recipe but I went ahead and followed the recipe – wow – buttery, moist and very fruity!
