Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 2 1/2 cups heavy cream
  2. 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  3. 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  4. One 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  5. 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  6. 6 ounces semisweet chocolate, melted and cooled, plus 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  7. 6 ounces white chocolate, melted and cooled, plus 1/2 cup finely chopped white chocolate
  8. Assorted chocolate sprinkles and toppings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Chill a 9-inch loaf pan or glass container in the freezer.
  2. Add the heavy cream, powdered sugar and vanilla extract to the bowl of an electric mixer. Using a whisk attachment, whip until stiff. Fold in the condensed milk. Divide the mixture between 2 large bowls.
  3. To one of the bowls, add the cocoa powder, melted semisweet chocolate and chocolate chips, then fold into the whipped cream.
  4. To the second bowl of whipped cream, add the melted white chocolate and chopped white chocolate, then fold in.
  5. Layer the different cream bases into the chilled loaf pan a couple spoonfuls at a time. (There is no rhyme or reason when layering; you want it to be imperfect.) Once all of the base has been added to the pan, swirl the two using a skewer or butter knife. Sprinkle an assortment of sprinkles over the top and wrap lightly with plastic wrap. Freeze overnight.
  6. When ready to serve, scoop into individual glasses and top with additional sprinkles.

As a child in the fifties, we did not have
an crank ice cream make. My mom used the ice trays with no dividers to freeze her version of the mixture.

Loved it. 2022 version here.

Rich, creamy, yummy. Easy to make and a nice change. I used a 13×9 glass dish rather than 9 inch loaf pan as stated in recipe, as I don’t think all the batter would fit into a 9″ loaf pan. Be sure to chop white chocolate fine. I didn’t chop fine enough and it is pretty chunky, but still very tasty. The mix ins are endless for this recipe. Next time instead of chocolate chips ad chopped white chocolate, I may add chopped peanut butter cups and M&M’s. Any cut up candy bar would work, or even nuts. Delicious. Will definitely make again. Thanks Ree.
