I haven’t come across a recipe for crispy ginger beef that tastes as well as the ones at restaurants. Through experimentation, I was able to come close. Serve with some steamed vegetables and rice.

Ingredients
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- ¼ tablespoon salt
- black pepper
- 12 ounces flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1 quart oil for frying
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- ½ tablespoon rice wine
- 1 ½ tablespoons honey
- 7 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ tablespoon chile paste
- ¼ cup water
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh ginger root
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- ¼ cup sliced onion
- ¼ cup diced red bell pepper
Instructions
- Heat oil in deep-fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, salt and pepper together. Mix thoroughly. Toss the steak slices in the cornstarch mixture and coat well.
- Deep fry the coated steak slices until golden brown. Check to make sure they are cooked through. Remove from oil, and set aside.
- In another mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, rice wine and honey. Add sugar, chili paste, water, and ginger. Mix well and set aside.
- Heat a wok or deep frying pan over medium high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of oil, and quickly saute the onion, garlic and red pepper for 30 seconds. Add the sauce mixture, and cook another 30 seconds. Finally, add the strips of fried steak and toss to heat through and coat with sauce.
- We have determined the nutritional value of oil for frying based on a retention value of 10% after cooking. The exact amount may vary depending on cook time and temperature, ingredient density, and the specific type of oil used.

It was delicious! ❤️
Loved this recipe! Easy and fast! great flavor as well! will be making it again!
I had to improvise in places but it was extremely tasty never-the-less. I also velveted the beef strips in egg whites and baking soda and cornstarch for about an hour and then coated them in corn starch and fried them and they came out super tender just like at the buffet. Be sure to keep your oil at the right temp-not too high and not too low. I used sliced jalapenos, broccoli, and onions for veges and sautéed them in the ninjafoodi while the beef was frying. I threw the beef into the ninjafoodi when it was all fried up and immediately added the sauce and kept mixing it all up while still on sauté until the cornstarch did its magic and coated everything. I also used my homemade pepper powder instead of the paste. I’m making it again tonight.
Really good, but not very spicy.
This recipe is fantastic! I’ve had this meal in an restaurant years ago and have been trying ever since to make it. Not only is it restaurant quality, but the recipe is super easy. Delicious!
This was a great recipe that I will definitely make again. However, I would not call it Spicy Crispy Beef, it is more sweet even with adding extra chilli paste and crushed red pepper. I would definitely not add 7 Tablespoons of sugar plus the honey, I halved the sugar and still my family thought it was sweet. I did not use a quart of oil for frying instead fried the steak in batches, I used vegetable oil. At then end, I found the sauce a little thin so made a slurry with a Tablespoon of Cornstarch and Water and it was perfect. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! Kids loved it also.
My whole family loves this recipe. The only thing I did different is that I doubled the sauce.
Very, very good! Having made it several times, I now double the sauce ingredients so there is enough for leftovers and for those who like sauce on their rice. We do not eat a lot of spicy foods so I cut the chilli paste by about one-third it’s still very flavourful. Time consuming, but very worthwhile!
Pretty tasty and easy to follow
My family loved this—it was very flavorful & the beef was crispy on the outside but tender inside
Love this…made minor adjustments but basically same. DELICIOUS!!
I was worried that I couldn’t get it right ! It turned out amazing and there were no left overs ! Really tasty
I didn’t have any beef so used pork it worked just as well. I have made a few times everybody loves it.
We aren’t big on fried things, but I wanted to try this recipe. I cut back on the sugar to half of what is written, and I’m sure glad I did, it would have been too sweet. This was good, but not great. I’m not sure I will bother to make it again? I doubled the sauce portion due to the other reviews comments. It was unnecessary and left me with too much sauce.
This is soo good…made as directed…the only change I made was..doubled sauce…add cornstarch to the sauce and simmer until thick…then tossed meat… Amazing flavor…
Finally! I’ve tried several recipes for ro this dish. And have finally found THE one! Thank you. Very, very yummy. I used thinly cut New York strip instead of flank turned out amazing
Made this for my husband, he loved it!! I had 2 people ask me for the recipe, I made it twice for my sister !! Great recipe!
Very tasty! I greatly increased the chilli, as a personal preference.
It was yummy and perfect! I just added more vegetables (onion and red pepper) to the ingrediants??
This was a really solid recipe. It was super easy and turned out great. The only change i made was cooking the peppers and onions a bit longer than the minute total. Next time im going to add a bit more heat.
