  4.3 – 259 reviews

The preferred marinade for cooking chicken in my family.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 6 hrs 30 mins
Total Time: 6 hrs 45 mins
Servings: 4
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 beef bouillon cube
  2. 1 cup warm water
  3. ½ cup soy sauce
  4. ⅓ cup brown sugar
  5. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  6. 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  7. 1 ½ pounds beef sirloin, cut into 1-inch strips
  8. 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  9. 2 pounds broccoli florets, or to taste
  10. 2 cups cooked jasmine rice
  11. 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Crumble beef bouillon cube into warm water in a bowl and stir to dissolve; add soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and sesame oil and stir to dissolve sugar.
  2. Put beef strips into a slow cooker crock. Pour sauce mixture over the beef.
  3. Cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours (or on High for 4 hours).
  4. Spoon 2 tablespoons liquid from the slow cooker into a bowl. Whisk cornstarch into the liquid and stir the cornstarch mixture into the liquid in the slow cooker until consistent in color.
  5. Cook on High until the sauce thickens, about 30 minutes.
  6. Place a steamer insert into a saucepan and fill with water to just below the bottom of the steamer. Bring water to a boil.
  7. Cook broccoli in covered steamer until tender, 2 to 6 minutes; add to sauce in slow cooker and stir to coat.
  8. Ladle broccoli beef over portions of cooked jasmine rice and garnish with sesame seeds.
  9. If the sauce isn’t thickening, ladle it out and cook it on the stove until it reaches the desired thickness, then return it to the slow cooker.

I love the recipe I just can’t cook as long as it says. My meat was too done

Very tasty recipe. I did use only half the brown sugar; just a personal preference. I used my Instant Pod for the slow cooker after reading other comments regarding sauce not thickening. After adding the cornstarch, I briefly set the pot to sauté and had a nice thick sauce in a minute or so.

It’s good, but I think the flavor is a little on the bland side. And way too much sugar!

Delicious, used low sodium beef broth and low sodium soy sauce though…..I believe the nutrition facts are way off though…there is NO way that this dish has 121 carbs per serving!

I’ve been making this for years. I came back to see if anything has changed on the recipe like some do. It’s exactly the same. I do use reduce sodium soy sauce, I add extra garlic, sliced onions, ground ginger, and crushed red pepper.

I used InstaPot which would have been okay but I should not have put the broccoli in as it turned to mush.

Not sure where to add “notes to self” on this site, but next time I would use low sodium soy sauce, cook on low for 4(ish) hours and add the broccoli after 2).

well i must say ours turned out fantastic! I ended up making a few changes 1. used Goya powdered bullion Beef! 1 packet. 2. used low sodium soy sauce 1/2 cup 3, frozen broccoli florettes put them in after 2 hours 4. used 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 table spoons of flour to make it thicker But in order to make it thicker i had to pull the broth and do broth on stove its faster for thickening It came out perfect very nice taste not salty! Hubby is going to love it Thanks again!!!

This was delicious, but a little too salty. I’ll adjust the stock next time. Meat was so tender, I will definitely make this again

Delicious. Omitted steaming the broccoli, but tossed in while thickening with the sauce.

Love this recipe! Easy and taste like a restaurant made it. Mom and Dad thought it was take out!

I made this tonight. Followed every step. Nothing tasted that good.- so bland! The cornstarch sauce was so thick with no flavor. I was really bummed because most of the reviews were great.

Lovely, served with chopped green onions as well

My family LOVES this recipe! Make it all of the time!!! Delicious and super easy!

We really enjoyed it, and the meat melted in your mouth. It tasted better than going to a restaurant. I used low sodium soy sauce, I used angus sirloin beef, and I added the broccoli into the crockpot about 30-40minutes before it would be ready instead of steaming it. It came out perfectly.

I liked the taste but I cooked my broccoli in the slow cooker, with the meat; I won’t do that again. I’ll make the beef again but will definitely cook broccoli separately. The meat was tender and flavorful.

This was so delish. Definitely don’t put the veggies in at the beginning, like i did 🙁 I used frozen trio peppers and frozen broccoli and they basically desentigted
Tracy Hill
Strictly followed the recipe. The sauce didn’t thicken but, that didn’t matter. I chose to not take the extra steps to thicken the sauce. That was okay, too. I suggest adding the raw broccoli to the slow cooker, if on high, in the last hour of cooking.

I must’ve messed this up because it was not good. I followed exactly and the meat was dry, the sauce never thickened. Would not make again.

Excellent!! I used beef broth instead of water and boullion but otherwise followed the recipe exactly.
