Quick Shrimp Lo Mein

It’s simple to make and delicious to eat this shrimp lo mein! If you’d want more sauce, you can double it. You can thin the sauce out by adding more water or broth. For a total of around 4 cups of vegetables, use whichever combination you prefer. Alternatively mixing them together, you can also serve the shrimp and vegetables over the noodles.

Ingredients

  1. 1 (8 ounce) package angel hair pasta
  2. 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  3. ¾ cup water
  4. ¼ cup soy sauce
  5. 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  6. 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  7. ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  8. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  9. 1 pound medium shrimp – peeled, deveined, and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  10. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  11. ¾ cup sliced green bell pepper
  12. ¾ cup chopped celery
  13. ¾ cup broccoli florets
  14. ¾ cup snap peas
  15. ½ cup onion slices
  16. ½ cup shredded cabbage
  17. 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook angel hair in the boiling water until cooked through yet firm to the bite, 4 to 5 minutes; drain. Toss with sesame oil in a bowl to coat.
  2. Mix water, soy sauce, cornstarch, oyster sauce, and ground ginger into a sauce a small bowl.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Cook and stir shrimp in hot oil until pink, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove shrimp from skillet to a bowl and return pan to heat.
  4. Heat remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in the pan. Cook and stir bell pepper, celery, broccoli, snap peas, onion, cabbage, and garlic in oil until slightly tender, about 5 minutes. Pour prepared sauce over vegetable mixture; stirring continually, bring to a simmer and cook until slightly thickened, 30 to 45 seconds. Return shrimp to the pan; cook 1 minute more. Add drained pasta; toss to coat.

This was a hit!!!!!!!!!! I didn’t use oyster sauce as I thought it wouldn’t suit us. But I tried it with orange sauce and sweet and sour stir fry sauce. It was so delicious. My youngest (3) had a blast eating the noodles and she rarely eats food. I have to admit I took seconds!

I used everything but the oyster sauce. I also added a ton of fresh ginger and fresh garlic. It’s a good sauce, and the lo mein looks and tastes authentic.

Good flavor. Marinated shrimp in teriyaki sauce for several hours. I doubled the amt of shrimp and doubled the sauce for my family. Used dried, wide lo mein noodles.

This recipe was ok for me due to the fact that because sugar was omitted it made the meal a bit on the salty side. I suggest adding 1-2 teaspoons of brown sugar to even it out.

Made this tonight for dinner and it was delicious! I followed the sauce recipe as written except for the fact that I eyeballed the measurements and substituted organic coco amino (healthy alternative) for the soy sauce. I cooked a 16 ounce package of linguine (it seemed more fitting for a stir fry dish than angel hair but that’s just my preference) and had to add about 1/3 cup of water at the end to deglaze the pan because my sauce seemed to stick to the bottom of my nonstick pan (weird). Due to what I had on hand, I used about 5 cloves of garlic, one red bell pepper, two carrots, half an onion, two stalks of celery, 2 cups of broccoli florets, half of a bunch of green onion (just the green part), and one pound of shrimp. I did season the veggies while they were cooking with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and an extra splash of the coco amino. This recipe was easy to prep and quick to cook. Perfect for a week night!! I’d definitely make this again! Thanks for the recipe!

First time making a chinese type dish and we loved it! Husband said was better than what we get from chinese restaurant. Only thing I did diff was no oyster sauce because I couldn’t find it in my grocery store and no snap peas because my kids don’t like them. I also used a bag of frozen cooked shrimp to be a little quicker. Still came out fabulous and WILL make it again with the egg roll recipe I also found here that was great. Thanks!

I thought this was a tasty dish. The sauce tasted differently from what I was expecting, but I still really enjoyed it. I did doubled the sauce although I am not sure if I really needed too. The amount written in the recipe may actually be enough. I wasn’t able to find snap peas so I substituted shredded carrots in its place. In the future I will use less celery and less green peppers and instead add more onions and broccoli and maybe even the snap peas if I can find them. I used lo mein noodles from an Asian grocery store. They added the perfect touch.
