Quesadilla Burgers

Everyone is sure to adore this fantastic hamburger variation! It combines the traditional American hamburger with southwest cuisine. This was a hit with my three kids and husband, who all eat very differently from one another! These go well with either sweet potato fries or green bean fries, in my opinion.

Ingredients

  1. ½ cup sour cream
  2. ¼ cup ranch dressing
  3. ¼ cup taco sauce
  4. 4 (4 ounce) hamburger patties
  5. 1 dash Worcestershire sauce, or to taste
  6. 8 flour tortillas
  7. 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  8. 2 cups shredded Colby-Jack cheese
  9. ½ head lettuce, shredded, or to taste
  10. 3 tablespoons picante sauce, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix sour cream, ranch dressing, and taco sauce together in a bowl until Southwest sauce is smooth. Cover bowl and refrigerate for flavors to blend.
  2. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  3. Cook hamburger patties in the preheated grill for 5 minutes, seasoning with Worcestershire sauce. Flip patties. Arrange tortillas on the grill and lower heat to medium-low under tortillas. Add Cheddar cheese and Colby-Jack cheese to tortillas; cook until cheeses melt, 2 to 4 minutes. Continue cooking hamburger patties until cooked through, about 5 minutes more. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).
  4. Spread Southwest sauce onto 1/2 of the tortillas; top with lettuce and picante sauce. Place 1 hamburger patty on top of picante sauce layer and top patty with a tortilla, creating a sandwich.
  5. The Southwest sauce makes an excellent salad dressing too!

Overall good taste. Hubby ate all of his. Very messy. The tortillas don’t absorb the juices like a bun would. Very slippery. I’m sure the taste depends on what taco sauce you use, what picante sauce, etc. I flattened my burgers very thin. Used fajita size shells (6”) and still had to trim an inch off

I make this recipe all the time and it is a family favorite. To make it easier to eat I form the patties in a rectangular shape.

This is a hit with my family! The mess we made with the sauce could be considered criminal in 4 states. But, we think it needs some more “oomph” and will add a diced jalapeño next time and maybe crisp bacon if I’m feeling bougie & want to be like Applebees. It’s delish as is, don’t get me wrong, and will eat it without reservation.

Loved the recipe. I learned something new with making that sauce. It was delicious! I used shredded Mexican cheese. Valentina hot sauce for My picante sauce. Burgers were premade. They were humongous.

Love them at restaurants and loved them at home! Next time I think I’ll try adding bacon and sautéed onions. I know, it takes away from the Quesadilla idea, but it sounds good.

Four Stars for the sauce and overall taste of the dish. The overall concern is how do you make this so the sauce and burger don’t slide out, and if you use the large tortillas, they are too large. I read all of the reviews and looked at all the pictures and was trying to get this one right. Sadly I did not succeed. I went with trimming the large tortillas down and used two per burger as the recipe calls for. It was a gooey mess that was very tasty. Next time around I will make it with one large tortilla, fold the edges over and pin it with a tooth pick like I have seen in one of the pictures.

Outstanding recipe. Thank you for sharing and for the helpful reviews. I made it indoors without a grill but otherwise as is. My sirloin burgers I rubbed with olive oil and sea salt & pepper. I cooked them in a skillet 5 mins each side. So juicy and delicious! The southwest ranch here is delicious. I heated my tortillas in another skillet as instructed. Put it all together, and now the family wants to know when we’re having them again!

Love the flavor of this recipe. The only advice I would give is to get the smallest tortillas you can find, otherwise the burger gets kind of lost in it. I think we used 8 inch ones — if I can’t find smaller next time, I will trim them down a little bit before using.

Hubby loved this, “Better than a big bun.” I did the tortillas in a cast iron pan on the stove, melted the cheese etc…., placed the hamburger patty on one quarter, loaded it up and folded in fourths. It worked well. Thanks!
