At my in-laws’ house, this cocktail is the house specialty. During the summer they spent in Zihuatanejo in the 1960s, my father-in-law acquired a love for homemade margaritas. He finally developed the perfect recipe for the best Mexican drink after years of experimentation.

I cut it in half to make a single drink for me. It was good but perhaps a hare too strong and a smidge too limey. I changed it to: 2 shots tequila 1.5 shot triple sec, 1 shot fresh lime juice, 1 shot sweetened lime juice and it was perfect 🙂
Dear Parker, I loved this recipe it was so good. After my daughter came home from soccer she just kept complaining and complaining I love my daughter but sometimes she can just get on my nerves. And than my husband comes home with the kids and they wont stop bugging me. After all that my husband takes a bath and complains about how my dinner was slights overcooked. I started balling my eyes out underneath the stairs. I instantly went to your account to make something to wash my worries away. Thank you, Love Brenda
What a beautiful, refreshing summer beverage! Made it exactly as written. Mr. Parker makes a fine Margie! This recipe is total keeper!
These are the best!!! I did reduce the tequila by an ounce and still achieved the desirable taste and buzz !!!!
This is a terrific recipe! In reading the reviews, I took the advice of using only 4 oz of tequila and that was more than enough. I also used maybe half oz more of the sweet lime juice, and fresh lime juice, gave it a good shake and it made one Margarita glass full. This is definitely a keeper!
Perfect. It hit the spot. I used Cointreau. I used all fresh squeezed lime juice and added a 1/4 cup sugar.
So good. Didn’t change a thing. Making them with fresh lime juice is soooo much better than a margarita mix.
We love a good margarita ~ this one was tasty enough, but It was hard to get past the taste of straight tequila (we used Don Julio Silver). I’d have given 5 stars if we’d followed the advice of other reviewers and cut back on the tequila a little. On a positive note ~ my better half was positively loopy after one margarita. 🙂
Love this, if it’s too strong, back off the liquor. You will want more
Tasted terrible…. looking for another recipe
Too much lime tried adding a bit of sugar like someone else suggested, but didn’t work so well for me Thank you, I may try it again.
I love this cocktail. Has become my before dinner drink. I splurged and bought Cointreau. Also I prefer silver tequila. For one drink I juice 2 limes. Serve in a low ball glass with the coarse salt!
Will certainly make again. I substituted a wine spirit called “Sublime” that we picked up in Australia since I didn’t have the sweetened lime juice. Needed to add about 1 ounce of simple syrup as well.
This is what I have been looking for … I found it quite tart so I added agave syrup on next batch and I have to say near perfect. I upped the quality of tequila to hornitos per another review and I don’t need to say more.
Absolutely the best margaritas for SUPER BOWL 50!!!! FUNDAY SUNDAY!!! The only thing we changed was using “patron citronge” liquor instead of triple sec! Soooo good!!!!
This is amazing! I did not have sweetened lime juice so I just added a dash of sugar and it was fantastic!
Loved it! These are fairly strong but taste great! I recommend using an agave tequila for a smoother flavor but they are good even with bottom shelf tequilas because the mix is so good.
Ooooohhhhh! Yes, make this. We sliced a jalepeno, removed the seeds, and placed it inside a mason jar. We filled the jar with Don Julio Resepado tequila, and let it marinate for two weeks. Now, whenever we need tequila for a recipe (wow, that sounds bad doesn’t it? We don’t drink tequila EVERY night. Sometimes it’s rum, or vodka.), we pull the mason jar out of the fridge and build our delicious concoction. We only used 4 oz of tequila (no judgments please, remember there’s a whole jalepeno in there). It was delicious and strong and delicious and by the fourth sip not so strong.
This was too strong/tart for my liking, but the hubby downed it easily, so we will probably make it again! I just have much more of a sweet tooth, but so long as you get a good tequila (Sauza Blue Silver is my go-to since it’s so smooth and fresh-tasting) and some fresh limes, you will be good to go. If you want it sweeter yourself, you can always add some simple syrup to the mix.
Not my favorite margarita. I use all fresh limes and lime juice, as well.
I love margaritas. This will be added to my list to make again.
