Pan Tomaca (Spanish Tomato Bread)

A typical Catalan morning meal that is popular across Spain is pan tomaca, or more precisely pa amb tomaquet. Getting ready couldn’t be any simpler! It also tastes great as a starter or snack if you don’t feel like having it for breakfast.

Ingredients

  1. 1 large tomato, chopped
  2. 2 slices crusty bread
  3. 1 clove garlic, halved
  4. 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, or to taste
  5. salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Place tomato in a blender; blend until smooth.
  2. Toast the bread until browned, 1 to 3 minutes. Rub each slice of toast with garlic; this is easier to do if the peel is left on.
  3. Top each slice of toast with pureed tomato. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
