Italian Seasoning II

  4.7 – 76 reviews  • Italian

Because you can customize it to your preferences, it is superior to already produced varieties. I use the bulk baggie spices in the Mexican cooking section since they taste fantastic and are significantly less expensive!

Prep Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 5 mins
Servings: 10
Yield: 10 tablespoons

Ingredients

  1. 2 tablespoons dried basil
  2. 2 tablespoons dried oregano
  3. 2 tablespoons dried thyme
  4. 2 tablespoons dried marjoram
  5. 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  6. 1 tablespoon dried sage

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, combine basil, oregano, thyme, marjoram, rosemary and sage. Blend for 1 minute, or until desired consistency is achieved.

I read reviews and came up with a revision I like. I used teaspoons not tablespoons to make a smaller amount. Use half the sage and thyme. Grind rosemary, then oregano and basil in a coffee grinder. Mix it in a spice jar with the rest of the ingredients. I’d give my concoction 5 stars.

convenient and easy to make up instead of buying expensive combination spices.

This smells so good and was so easy to make a larger quantity that will last much longer for a lot less than the little jars or bottles you buy at the grocery store.

Great seasoning

Was happy to find this Italian Seasoning recipe. Just wanted to say, don’t forget your bay leaves. I throw bay leaves loosely into my spaghetti sauce, one for each person who will be eating. If you get one in your serving it is GOOD LUCK. My grandchildren love this!!

Quick, easy and inexpensive. I used this, with fresh garlic and olive oil, to marinate chicken. Next time I will cut back on the sage, personal preference. The only change that I made was to grind the rosemary in my mortar and pestle for a few minutes, then add the other herbs. Thanks for sharing.

I added a tablespoon of garlic powder, then applied my immersion blender. Second time making it, and so much easier than trying to remember generic Italian spices individually.

I halved the Salt. Otherwise great recipe! Thank you for sharing.

Why buy Italian seasoning when I have all the ingredients in my cabinet, and I can modify the proportions to suit my taste?

I use this mix for a creamy italian dressing. I followed exactly except didnt add sage. Works perfectly for my dressing. Note: I did not use a food processor. Just mixed with spoon and store in a mason jar.

This is pretty good, but like the earlier post, I had to reduce the sage and I replaced it with more oregano to get that Italian flavor

This seasoning smells like Heaven, so much better than store bought!

Thank you so much for getting me started making my own Italian seasoning!! I’m so pleased to be able to do this. I did make some changes, but its a preference in taste. I added 1 T garlic granules, 2 t black pepper, 1 t ground red pepper and 2 t fennel seeds (ground a little) into this and I cut back to 1 t the Rosemary, Sage and Thyme. I may put more Marjoram the next time (because I love the taste) I am not a shaker, I pinch or spoon seasonings out. Again my preference! but I’m so glad to get started on my own seasoning! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. It take another cook’s encouragement to be bold enough to do this!!

Any time, I don’t have Italian seasoning – this is a fast substitute. I reduce it to use teaspoons instead of tablespoons and I usually use it in a day or two.

Loved that I had all of these on hand anyway. Good basic recipe, but can’t imagine why garlic isn’t included. I think with this addition, I would rate it 5 star!

Very good! I didn’t have any IS and this saved our dinner tonight. Thank you for sharing! There is one spice note that was kind of sticking out to me – maybe the rosemary so I will tweak future batches a little to adjust for our tastes. I used teaspoons instead of tablespoons because I don’t use Italian seasoning very often. This was simple to follow and worked beautifully. Thanks again!

Thanks, I had a Garbanzo Bean Salad recipe and it called for Italian seasonings.

Made no changes. Better than the store blend IMO. AND because I can use up individual seasonings that I use for other things as well, and keep those fresher by rotating through them faster!

This is a good basic Italian seasoning, for sauces and gravies.
