Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 3 ½ pounds chicken wings, tips on
  2. 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
  3. 3 (10.75 ounce) cans tomato soup
  4. 2 teaspoons ground cloves
  5. 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  6. 8 bay leaves
  7. 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  8. salt and pepper to taste
  9. 2 cups long grain rice, rinsed and drained
  10. 4 cups water
  11. 1 teaspoon cloves
  12. 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  13. 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
  14. ⅓ cup slivered almonds
  15. ⅓ cup golden raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. Pour tomato sauce and soup into a large roasting pan. Stir in cloves, garlic, bay leaves, cayenne, and salt and pepper. Take the tip of each chicken wing and bend it back, securing it under the joint where thigh and drummette are joined. Place wings in pan, and spoon sauce over chicken.
  3. Cover pan, and bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C), and bake until sauce is thick, about 1 1/2 hours.
  4. To prepare rice, combine rice, water, cloves, salt, turmeric, almonds, and raisins in a large saucepan over high heat. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer until rice is cooked, about 10 minutes.

Our family enjoyed this recipe and it was very easy to fix. I didn’t have the cayenne so I can’t say that I followed it exactly. I used chili powder instead. Still very good, especially over the rice. Thanks for this recipe.

Very delicious recipe! I used chicken drum sticks as I did not have any wings available and just plain white rice since I was out of Tumeric. Added some of the extra sauce to the rice. This dish was a hit in my family! Very flavourful and easy to prepare. Will definitely be making this one again.

This was a great recipe! My wife and I used it for chicken breasts instead of wings and it worked great! I forgot to cover the pan, so the sauce didn’t work out so well and it dried onto the chicken, but I spooned what was on the bottom of the pan over the chicken and that went a long way. Used brown rice for the the rice dish. It was okay. Will probably use again.

This came out excellent. I didn’t have any tomato soup, just used a can of tomato paste watered down. Also didn’t have any tumeric so I substituted with onion and garlic sazon. For the rice, I used whole cloves and subbed the almonds for craisins. I also used basmati and the rice came out subtle sweet. Overall, I loved the dish and it was easy to make. Next time I might try to make the chicken in a slow cooker.

This was wonderful. I used chicken breasts and thighs instead of wings, and the aroma while it was cooking drove the whole family crazy with anticipation. A very savory dish and one I will be making again and again.
