The pumpkin in this chili is a wonderful surprise! It tastes fantastic and freshens up the entire house. If desired, top with cheese and jalapenos. On the cooktop, you can also prepare this dish. For chili to simmer, cooking time would be cut to 30-45 minutes.

I followed the recipe exactly as listed… but I did use dark rum instead of clear because dark is what I drink and what I had. It came out great, but as others have indicated, it is rather potent. So pace yourself. I used inexpensive red wine (Bigfoot I think) and I combined merlot and cab.
I made this with Coyote Moons, NY Twisted Sister and cut the sugar in half and it was amazing!
Love it. This packs quite a punch!
I made this as written 2 different times with 2 different red wines as written and one without sugar and it was disgusting. Would never recommend this recipe.
Amazing! I did tweak it to my liking tho. Who knew that this amount of rum would’ve worked so well? Anyways I’ve come to the realization that it does not matter what kind of wine you use!! Sweet, dry, red or white! Use whatever but just adjust the sugar content to your liking. I also added Cointreau, grenadine & 7up! Great!
Exactly what I was hoping for on a humid afternoon. I did change it up just a tad, I was concerned about it being overly boozy because of other reviewers. I added a can of sparkling water just to try to thin it a touch. Seemed to help. Also added a little less sugar just because I ran out. This is fab and sweet and refreshing.
Best Sangria I ever had
Best sangria ever! It is the most requested recipe in my arsenal
YesYesYes!!! I was so nervous about making a good sangria for the 1st time during our Covid lockdown Easter and it was AWESOME!! Not a large gathering for Easter, but my husband, and my 2 adult kids that are here and I were thrilled how delicious this turned out. • Used the Kraken Spiced Rum • made a 1/4C simple syrup bc some comments said sugar was a little hard to dissolve • Added all kinds of fruit, including frozen mixed fruit to soak over night • Next morning added fresh fruit • Topped each glass with a splash of ginger ale We tasted it right when I made it and ?? whew! A kick!! But by the next day this drink tasted like the BEST sangria, and I knew immediately I should have made more lol!! Will be remaking this recipe real soon!!
I’ve been making this recipe since 2008 and it’s always a hit! Over time, I’ve adjusted the recipe to use 3/4 cup of white rum (vice what the recipe calls for) and I use a red blend of wine (gives it a more balanced and smooth taste).
Great for parties! I doubled the recipe and only used 1/4 cup sugar. Don’t like it too sweet.
I have been wanting to make this recipe up as our local fav Mexican has a wicked Sangria which we often enjoy with our friends. So for a Friday easy dinner at their place I made this with tequila rather than brandy, all the citrus and apple. Then threw in strawberries, because I had 3 packs in the fridge. It only got an hour in the fridge so hadn’t really developed fully. But sure went down well, the dogs loved the apple pieces, and even ate the orange peel. I need to make again.
used pinot noir wine and only 1 cup of Malibu coconut rum
I loved this! However, I let it marinate in the fridge for 12 hours and did not add the sugar. (I don’t like overly sweet drinks). It was delicious!
It was too much rum and way too much OJ. It tasted a little like medicine.
This is the worst recipe for Sangria I ever made and I’ve made plenty. Think about it: 1 bottle of wine, 1-1/2 cups of rum tempered by only 1/2 cup of OJ. I’ve been to Spain and never encountered sangria like this.
Very strong, but very good drink! A few of my friends cut it with sprite, because they found it too strong. Would make again!
Favorite class sangria recipe, I can drink the whole pitcher on my front porch watching the corn grow.
This was a big hit with my book club-not a drop left! The only change I made was to decrease the rum to one cup: we needed our senses because we still had to discuss the book! Muy delicioso!
It was excellent! I used organic cane sugar and melted it with half of the orange juice first. Also used organic orange juice, and citrus fruits.
I added some gingerale to mine to make it go a bit further. We all liked it.
