I hold a crawfish boil every spring, but this time I was determined to use the Instant Pot to streamline the procedure. I was able to find a lot of Instant Pot recipes that asked for frozen crawfish, but none that called for live crawfish. Accepted the test!

Ingredients
- 5 eggs
- 2 ½ cups white sugar
- 1 ¼ cups vegetable oil
- 1 ¼ cups matzo cake meal
- 1 ½ cups unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ¼ cups chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Beat eggs and sugar. Add oil. Mix in cake meal and cocoa. Add nuts (or use the nuts as a topping).
- Bake in a greased 9 x 13 inch pan at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 35 minutes. The secret to moist brownies, Pesach or otherwise, is to underbake them. Check them at 30 minutes. I also put nuts on top rather than in the brownies for two reasons: They make the top look good without having to frost them and, for those who don ‘t or can’t eat nuts, they are easily removed without having to search for them.

The broken pieces we tried were moist and delicious. We used almond flour (as suggested by the author) and discovered that simply spraying the pan was not enough.Should have remembered that all baked goods made using almond flour need to use BOTH baking spray and parchment paper at the bottom to guarantee a clean release. Also, I believe using a 9”x13” pan with this amount of batter would lead to a very thin brownie, so we used a 9” pan to get a normal height brownie. Altho untie author did not mention it, I would strongly suggest using parchment paper on the bottom of your pan-whatever size.
I’m so glad so many people are enjoying this recipe! I posted this recipe years ago because I kept misplacing it! This year, just for the heck of it, I thought I’d try to make it flourless. I used almond flour instead of matzo cake meal. PERFECTION! So, Pesach bakers, another variation for enjoyment.
Easy and really delicious. Will keep this one for future Passovers.
I made these for Passover and got so many compliments. Guests said they were the best they’ve ever had and said that they would make them even if it wasn’t Passover! I wish I could take credit for being an excellent baker, but I have to give credit where credit is due!
This was so tasty and definitely moist. My family loved these brownies. They will be a favorite for us now at Passover .
These are fabulous, and will definitely become an annual Seder dessert. It’s easy and fast. I plan to make some for gifts during Passover. I used 2 cups sugar, which was enough. I placed the walnut pieces on top which looks great. My 15 year oven had just been leveled. At 30 minutes the brownies were more than done so I’ll check them at 25 minutes next time. Thank you for a winner!
I hit enter and couldn’t edit… oops. Anyway cooked for exactly 30 minutes, 8x11ish oiled pan, toothpick not completely clean but close enough. These are fabulous! I didn’t add the nuts (don’t like) but these brownies are rich, super chocolate and moist. Cannot wait to serve them tomorrow night! 5 stars!
I made these brownies for our Passover Seder, and everyone loved them. I used only half the walnuts, and I sprinkled them on half of the batter so people could choose brownies with or without nuts. I definitely will be making these again!
Outstanding recipe. I have made it many times. I had lost my old recipe, and found this one. It is better than my old one. I use chocolate chips instead of nuts. I have shared this recipe with all my sisters and my mom. If you only have matzo meal and not matzo cake meal, just do as other commenters have suggested, and process the matzo meal in a food processor until it is a finer powder.
This was easy, easy, easy! My youngest daughter said they taste like a packet mix (high praise indeed!) and nothing like a pasech dessert – thank you.
My late mother handed down this recipe over 50 years ago– and yes, it is the best! So good, that my non- Jewish friend uses it as her go to brownie recipe.
Super easy, and delicious.
EXCELLENT RECIPE!!!!! It was VERY EASY and everyone LOVED them!!!! They were SO MOIST and DELICIOUS!! Thank you!
Wonderful recipe. Similar but better than Passover Brownies in Second Helpings Please. For easy removal, I greased pan & lined it with parchment paper, which I also greased. At 30 minutes, toothpick doesn’t come out clean but the top is set & brownies are perfectly moist. Note: Cake meal is ground finer then regular matzo meal. You can make matzo cake meal by using blender to grind matzo meal into a fine powder. Strain to sift out any lumps. Brownies freeze well. If freezing, don’t ice until defrosted. Optional Icing: In microwave, melt in 20 second intervals, 6 ozs. semi-sweet chocolate squares or chips, 1½ tbsps. margarine & 1/8 + 1/16 tsp. water.
Excellant. Make for Passover.
This weekend I’ll use this recipe as a ‘base’ for brownies that I want to make…I’ll substitute the veg oil for blue band light olive oil baking product and put in pecans instead of walnuts end crush some eastern egs (chocolate) that I still have and put them in… Oh and I’ll use wholeweat flour and yeast since I don’t know what matzoh is and i want the brownies nice and fluffy…This was the first recipe I found that didn’t require butter but oil and that’s what I wanted. (I also tried to look op vegan brownies, but nothing there) I understand it’s a Jewish recipe, hope you don’t mind I’ll tinker with it 🙂
This was great! A hundred times better than the boxed mix. My family loved them.
Very good and fudgy. Took the advice and underbaked them.
The best Passover brownies I have ever made. If you don’t have cake meal you can use regular matza meal – the consistency will be a bit less smooth, but they will be great nonetheless – and won’t last long.
Very sweet. It also needs more than 30 minutes to bake otherwise it will fall apart.
Wow… what a wonderful change from the usual tasteless and grainy passover desserts! This was delicious, and everyone raved about it. I will definitely serve this again next year.
