Coffee Brownies

  4.0 – 1 reviews  • Nut Brownie Recipes

I’ve tried a lot of brownies, and these are the moistest, chocolateiest, and best ones I’ve ever had. Even though preparation and cleanup take time, they are both well worth it. You might wish to make a pan for yourself as well! Simply twice the recipe.

Total Time: 1 hr 20 mins
Servings: 16
Yield: 16 brownies

Ingredients

  1. 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 teaspoon salt
  3. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  4. 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
  5. ½ pound butter, softened
  6. ¾ cup white sugar
  7. ¾ pound dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  8. 2 large eggs
  9. 2 tablespoons coffee-flavored liqueur (such as Kahlua®)
  10. 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  11. ¼ cup instant coffee granules
  12. 6 ounces semisweet chocolate morsels
  13. ¾ cup chopped walnuts
  14. ¾ cup chopped pecans
  15. ½ (16 ounce) container ready-made dark chocolate frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  3. Place chocolate squares in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Stir frequently, scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula to avoid scorching, until chocolate is melted, about 5 minutes. Set aside.
  4. Cream butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer. Add sugar, brown sugar, eggs, coffee-flavored liqueur, vanilla extract, melted chocolate, coffee granules, and the flour mixture, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in chocolate morsels, followed by walnuts and pecans until thoroughly mixed. Pour batter into a 9×12-inch baking dish.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until top is dry and edges have started to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 25 minutes. Let cool, about 20 minutes. Spread frosting on top of cooled brownies.

These are some rich brownies, but that’s what a dessert should be! I didn’t get a strong coffee taste, but that’s okay. I accidentally melted all the chocolate together based on the directions. They still turned out fine. I melted the a scoop of frosting and drizzled on top.
