Yield: 24 cookies

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. ½ teaspoon baking powder
  3. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  4. ½ teaspoon salt
  5. ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  6. ¾ cup light brown sugar
  7. ½ cup white sugar
  8. 1 large egg
  9. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  10. 20 drops green food coloring
  11. 1 cup red and green candy-coated chocolate pieces (such as M&M’s®)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl. Cream butter, brown sugar, and white sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer. Add egg, vanilla extract, and food coloring, and mix until well combined. Gradually add flour mixture to the wet ingredient and continue beating until all the green color is uniformly distributed. Mix in about 3/4 cup of the M&M’s. Batter will be stiff.
  3. Scoop tablespoons of dough and roll into balls. Place on the prepared cookie sheets and decorate by gently pressing remaining M&M’s onto the tops of the balls.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven, about 10 minutes.
  5. You may use regular size M&Ms. Add more or less food coloring, depending on your preference. You may try food coloring gel; you won’t need to use as much for a more intense color.
  6. Batter does not need to be refrigerated, but you may refrigerate for 15 minutes to ease scooping.

These cookies are very tasty! My younger brothers made these for Christmas. They loved it all, especially pushing the candies on the top of them!
