Mayonnaise is the surprise ingredient in these delicate, decadent, chocolatey cookies. They’re made with only 5 ingredients total, and the mayo gives the cookies the fat and stability of eggs, butter and oil. Bonus: the mayo also adds a special tangy flavor.

Yield: | 12 to 15 cookies |
Ingredients
- 2 cups self-rising flour (see Cook’s Note)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- One 10-ounce bag bittersweet or dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line 2 rimmed baking sheets with parchment.
- Whisk together the flour, sugar and cocoa in a large bowl. Add the mayonnaise and 1/4 cup water and stir until completely combined and there is no more dry flour visible; this will take a minute or two, but keep going and it will come together eventually. Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Use a 1/4-cup (2-ounce) scoop to scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets. Bake until the cookies have spread and are just set at the edges, 12 to 14 minutes. Cool completely on the baking sheets.

Reviews
I loved how easy these were, and I found them to be super chocolatey and chewy! They were fun to make.
These were basically tasteless even though I added a little more cocoa than called for. I used ff mayo and 72% dark chocolate chips but they really never spread. Baked 24 & threw the rest of the dough away. A fail as far as I’m concerned.
These cookies were picture perfect but tasted off. I love mayo, but these were just weird tasting.
I used full fat Kraft Mayo and high quality dark chocolate for the chips.
