Sour Cream Cheese Casserole

  4.2 – 102 reviews  • Creamy Chicken

Sour cream, cream cheese, creamy chicken, and mushroom soups are all ingredients found in this casserole, which is finished with buttery round crackers. Though it doesn’t have the greatest appearance, this dish is quite simple to cook and kids adore it. This was a gift from my sister-in-law a few years ago.

Prep Time: 10 mins

  4. ½ (8 ounce) package cream cheese
  5. ½ cup sour cream
  6. 1 cup crushed buttery round crackers

  3. Transfer casserole mixture into a lightly greased 9×13 inch baking dish and top with remaining cracker crumbs.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 15 minutes or until crackers turn golden brown. Spoon into bowls and enjoy!

Loved this recipe. I added mozzarella cheese to the mix and more crackers inside and on top. Even the pickiest in the house enjoyed it!

I added a half pound of fresh mushrooms and did not put the crackers in the mix, putting them all on top instead. I also melted a half stick of butter to cost the crackers in before using them as a topping. This is similar to the chicken poppy seed casserole. It really hits the spot when you are craving comfort food on a cold day.

Very good. I will make it again.

Omg so rich and yummy.. I did use 3/4 of a brick of cream cheese instead of a half of a brick and I also used about a 1/2 cup more crackers as well other than that I followed the rest of the recipe exactly. I poured it over rotini noodles, I will definitely use this recipe again.

I substituted cream of broccoli for the two cream soups, kids still liked it! I thought it was too rich and creamy.

This is a great recipe. Makes a really rich and creamy casserole. I put it over rice. I add cheddar cheese and butter to the Ritz cracker crust to make it brown better. Definitely a favorite recipe!

this is quite delicious! I made it with pasta as it seems filling and rich. Making meals ahead for work days. This I will make again. 🙂

This was a very different dish for us but we all enjoyed it. I was looking for a recipe to help clean out some ingredients in my fridge and this fit the bill. I served it on both egg noodles and in flour tortillas to the guys (it was enjoyed more in the tortillas, oddly enough.) I’m rating it 4 stars because it definitely needed some seasoning as well as another component. After trying it prepared, we added some salt, pepper, garlic powder & cheddar cheese to it. I also agree with the majority of reviewers who said to layer it with some cheese before the crackers, to prevent them from getting mushy!

Was good after I added curry (1/2 to 1 T). Also added steamed broccoli.

It’s okay. The flavor is good but it is kind of dry. I followed the recipe almost exactly. I just added a little milk (and broccoli for a veggie) because it was so thick and it was still dry. I think I may have used too much chicken. Also the photo of the food on the plate must be a mistake because that’s not what the dish looks like. It looks like the photo of the casserole dish.

I should have followed the suggestion of topping it with stuffing.

This was SO good! I added cheese before I put the rest of the cracker crumbs on top. I also broiled it for the last minute to finish off the dish. I added some panko bread crumbs along with the left over cracker crumbs and I seasoned my chicken with salt, pepper, and cajun seasoning. WONDERFUL recipe. Thank you!

I’m also surprised that this recipe had so many good reviews. It is definitely rich and I could barely eat it. I’m glad that I didn’t feed it to my kids. I won’t be making this again.

Super Delicious! I added a can of chicken broth, a bag of mixed veggies, and I shredded the chicken. After adding onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper this was really really good. I also used bread crumbs instead of crackers (since I didn’t have any) and then topped with cheese. It was great served over egg noodles. Will definitely make again. Would be great cooked with rice in the casserole or with biscuits.

Sooooooo nothing special. 😛 Not gross, just not what others are raving about. Similar in flavor to how chicken pot pie filling is made, but w/o the veg and flavor. I won’t make it again, and my southern husband thanks me. I also wish the poster of the enchilada picture would have specified in writing how they doctored up the recipe – as is, it would be horrible as enchilada filling! (I live in So. CA – I would know.)

If you like cheese like i do you can add some shreaded cheese and make it extra cheesy. Makes alot and freezes well.

Pro – very easy to make. I’m a fan of anything I can make with a can of soup. Con – extremely rich. But hey, it has sour cream and cream cheese, what does one expect? I agree with one of the other reviews – it needs something else like rice. I actually used pasta because the casserole is more like a sauce.

Used plain non-fat yogurt & reduced fat cream cheese, also low-sodium cream soups to help w/nutrition value. Added broccoli & Served over whole wheat pasta. Everyone enjoyed!

This was extremely easy to make. However, it was a little bland but I will make it again and see if adding some onions helps. My husband and sons loved it. We served it over white rice and had a salad with it.

I changed this recipe up a bit and made enchiladas out of it. Just omit the cracker and roll up ingredients in tortillas. Yum!

I used fat free ingredients, and it was still delicious!!
