Krista’s Sticky Honey Garlic Wings

  4.4 – 194 reviews  • Wings

The entire family will love these wings with honey garlic sauce. The homemade sauce is far superior to jarred sauce purchased from a store. The chicken wings can be fried, but I like baking because it uses less fat. Serve with stir-fried vegetables and fried rice.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 48 pieces

Ingredients

  1. 24 chicken wings, split and tips discarded
  2. 3 1/4 cups water, divided
  3. ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  4. ¼ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  5. 5 tablespoons honey
  6. 5 cloves garlic, minced
  7. 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root
  8. 3 tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Arrange chicken wings evenly on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until crisp, 35 to 45 minutes. Transfer wings to a baking dish and set aside.
  4. Mix together 2 1/2 cups water, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat; bring to a boil. Whisk together remaining 3/4 cup water and cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth; stir into soy sauce mixture and cook until thickened. Pour sauce over chicken wings to coat.
  5. Return wings to the oven and bake until sauce is bubbling and chicken is no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, 15 to 20 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
  6. This recipe is equally good with thighs, breasts, or skinless boneless chicken. You’d just have to adjust the cooking time.

Delicious I made these for my very picky girls and they just ate them up. Only change would add a bit more corn starch to make a bit thicker.

We no longer order in wings. Easy to make & family loves them. Add a dash of hot sauce to liven it up!
James Baker
My husband loved it, it was easy to make. When I turned the wings over I added a thin line on Honey.

I love it. I made the sauce with spare ribs and my family loves it. It’s a new family favourite.

I didn’t use as much water and thickener as suggested and it still didn’t thicken up

This was just ok. It wasn’t sticky, it was very watery. It needs a lot less water & red pepper flakes and/or sriracha sauce.
Elizabeth Stuart
The sauce was delicious but it doesn’t stay on the wings well. Next time, I plan to coat the wings in flour prior to pouring the sauce on top of the wings to help the sauce stick.

These chicken wings were AWESOME! My teenagers couldn’t stop eating them. A definite must to make them again.

This is an excellent recipe. I had enough sauce left over to freeze for another batch.

Good ingredients but terrible proportions. Too sweet, watery, no taste of garlic. Have to adjust all ingredients.

This was such a hit for our Big Game party last night. Even my husband, who isn’t a wing eater, gave very high compliments on this sauce! I will definitely be making this again! I cooked my wings in the instant pot and finished them under the broiler using the sauce recipe you have given. I topped the wings off with some red pepper flakes to add just a bit of heat to the sweet. BEST wings I have ever had!

Fricken amazing!!!

Omg it was AMAZING as written. My husband was literally sticking his fingers in the left overs (we did two sauces for our wings so we have at least one more meals worth to savour)! Delicious and will be making it again and again! Very rare I don’t change a recipe but this one is delicious

Flavour was nice, but the sauce was much too runny.

Really good… I added a little Texas Pete for a kick plus sesame seeds. Outstanding!

The sweet sauce was great with these wings! You could add some red pepper flakes for heat. Great with rice to give it that Chinese taste. I needed extra cornstarch for mine, but otherwise followed as written!

Roasting the wings first made a difference. They were nice and crispy. Sauce was a good consistency and a a great taste.

Excellent!

This is the best honey garlic recipe I’ve come across for chicken wings. My kids love it and always request it. I followed the recipe exactly, only added chili flakes as we like it spicy. It does make a lot of sauce but I save it to use for another date later in the week. Thanks for the recipe!

The sauce from this recipe is fantastic on its own. I made it right by the recipe this time, but I’m sure the water/cornstarch step could be adjusted to suite your desired consistency.

Amazing! Tastes absolutely amazing. Easy to follow recipe, and amazing taste. We only used 2 cups of water (no need to add the extra water with the corn starch if you want a thicker sauce) and 4 tablespoons of cornstarch.
