Air Fryer Chicken Wings

  4.6 – 338 reviews  • Poultry
Level: Easy
Total: 40 min
Active: 20 min
Yield: 2 to 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 2 pounds chicken wings, split at the joint and tips removed
  2. Kosher salt
  3. 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  4. 1/2 cup hot sauce, such as Frank’s RedHot
  5. Ranch or blue cheese dressing, for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings dry and sprinkle generously with salt. Place the wings in the basket of a 3.5-quart air fryer so they are not touching (if necessary to fit, line up the drumettes standing upright along the sides). Set the air fryer to 360 degrees F and cook for 12 minutes, then flip the wings with tongs and cook for 12 minutes more. Flip the wings again, increase the heat to 390 degrees F and cook until the outsides are extra-crispy, about 6 minutes more.
  2. Meanwhile, warm the butter in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave until melted, about 1 minute. Whisk in the hot sauce.
  3. Toss the wings with the butter mixture to coat in a large bowl and serve with dressing on the side.

These are the best wings I’ve ever eaten, even better than the ones at Buffalo Wild Wings. For mild heat I reduced Franks Red Hot sauce to 1/4 cup to 4 tablespoons butter which is perfect for those that can’t tolerate hot spicy foods, so by adjusting the hot sauce to 1/4 cup it gives the wings a great flavor but with very mild heat.

Everyone loved these! So easy. Have you ever put them in the oven after tossing in the sauce to bake the sauce on them?

Question? Do you have to use the air fryer with the basket or any air fryer will work?

Hi All!
I’ve got a question. This will be my first time making these wings & I’m super excited!
Have any of you tried cooking them to like 80-90% done, then dipping in sauce, then finishing them off in a turned up air fryer, till done/crispy?

You see, I love the sauce, but prefer my wings dry (on the outside) and not dripping in sauce.

These sound so good, I don’t presume you’ve had leftovers to reheat, but that is almost the same.
I found I enjoy wings most when I’m heating & crisping them back up in my AF. So I figure why not go for the same when they’re fresh .
Having made these, how long do you guys think I should cook them, before & after saucing. Temps also please, and any other advice or wisdom you care to share.

My sincerest thanks for this perfectly simple recipe and all of you for already sharing your valuable insights. Cheers, Ronni!

Ranch dressing? Here in Buffalo it’s a common insult to say something like “He eats his wings with ranch!” This article explains and understands what civilized people dip their wings in. At least you don’t call them Buffalo wings (do buffalo even have wings?)
