I too live in Tampa, Florida. Am fortunate to have the real deal but unfortunately some of us do not have access to bakery Cuban bread. I think this version is very tasty as well! Will definitely make again even if I didn’t have the Cuban bread on hand.

The sandwich looks delicious, but it is not a Cuban because it is on French bread.  To truly be called a Cuban sandwich, the traditional ingredients must be on Cuban bread, period.  Why do I know this?  Because the Cuban sandwich originated in Tampa, Florida back in the late 1800s, and Tampa is my hometown, where the Cuban sandwich is still a staple today.  Ask anyone here who knows anything about the Cuban sandwich, and you will be told that it is the Cuban bread that gives the sandwich its name.  The filling ingredients on any other kind of bread is just…a sandwich.  What you have in this recipe is a very delicious looking panini-style ham, pork, and cheese sandwich.

My fiance loved these and I will definitely make them again! I just cooked them in a fry pan and used my cast iron skillet to squish them down. I also used my own pickle recipe instead, as I already had a batch of them whipped up! I also didn’t have any roast pork, but just the deli ham worked fine.

Very Good! Used a Panini Maker.
