Level: Easy
Total: 30 min
Active: 25 min
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 4 small sub rolls
  2. Unsalted butter, softened, for grilling the rolls
  3. 2 pounds ground pork
  4. 1 tablespoon homemade or store-bought BBQ rub
  5. Oil, for oiling the grill grates
  6. 1 cup of your favorite BBQ Sauce, plus extra for sandwiches
  7. 12 dill pickle slices
  8. 1 small red onion, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill for cooking at medium-high heat.
  2. Split the rolls and spread the cut sides with the butter. Grill until toasted and golden, about 2 minutes.
  3. Mix the ground pork with the rub in a bowl until just combined. Form into 4 rectangular patties, slightly larger than your rolls.
  4. Lightly oil the grill grates. Place the patties on the grill and cook for 3 minutes. Flip the patties and baste with barbecue sauce. Cook until charred on the other side, another 3 minutes. Continue this process multiple times, flipping and basting about every 3 minutes, until both sides are glossy and charred and the internal temperature hits 165 degrees F, 5 to 8 minutes.
  5. Place the patties on the rolls and top with the dill pickles, red onions and additional barbecue sauce, if desired.

Very easy recipe to make. Instead of using an outdoor grill I used a cast iron grill pan to cook the patties. I also placed the cooked patties on a wire rack on a cookie sheet, basted the patties with BBQ sauce, then placed in 450°oven. I baked for 7 minutes on one side, flipped the patties, basted with BBQ sauce again, baked an additional 7 minutes. Turned out perfect!

Wow!!!! I am not a lover of pork burgers. But these are fantastic. Never will I be going to fast food joints again. Quarantine has made me a pretty good cook. Thanks to the Kitchen and this app.

This is a great recipe! Easy and so satisfying. I make my own bbq rub to add, and in a pinch will use Sweet Baby Ray’s if I dont have my own on hand. I dont know why I never consider ground pork for patties on the grill, but this is one recipe I’ll never forget. Pickles and onions are a must to cut through the fat.

Didn’t think I was going to like this – not a big fan of ground pork. This was great though.  Used the rub from Katie Lee’s best ever ribs. (The ribs are great too!). Definitely will make these pork burgers again!

Same here can someone please share the spice rub Jeff described, it’s not on foodnetwork. I would like to make the recipe correctly.

Has anybody posted Jeff’s rub recipe?  If so, please repost it.  Or is there another best rub recipe?
