Ingredients
- Nonstick cooking spray, for the pan
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chunks
- 2 teaspoons turbinado sugar
- 1 teaspoon flake salt
- Green frosting and sprinkles, to decorate
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray an 8-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder and kosher salt. Add the granulated sugar, melted butter, vanilla and eggs and whisk until a few lumps remain. Stir in the chocolate chunks.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle with the turbinado sugar and flake salt. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs, about 25 minutes. Allow to cool completely in the pan.
- Cut the brownie in half. Using the tip of a knife, slice in angles making W’s with the cut to form triangular pieces. Remove each piece and decorate with frosting and sprinkles as desired.

Everyone loved them!
These were good, but I will probably not make them again just because there are so many other cookies that I make for Christmas cookie “hand outs” that I prefer.
I did not use the chocolate chunks (or chips) because I thought in doing so I’d avoid any cutting “issues”. They cut very easily having not used the chocolate chunks or chips.
So deliciously chocolatey good. Simply easy to make. these were perfect with a hard time that I have going on right now with the terminally ill niece who wants sugar sugar sugar. Thank you so much. She loved them.
I have made these trees twice at Christmas, but it has also become my go-to brownie recipe when I need just a few. I cut them into 12 rectangles and dust with some confectioner’s sugar. They are so good.
FYI, 1/10 recipe approx 265 calories. I wish all Food Network recipes would include calorie count.
Hubby loves them! My inexperience with piping really showed, but did not affect the taste. I also used chopped pecans which presented an occasional cutting challenge. Definitely will make again!
