Vanilla Dutch Baby

  4.9 – 17 reviews  • Baked Pancake Recipes

Salsa, corn, great northern beans, ground turkey, and pepper Jack cheese are all ingredients in this white chili dish. My coworker brought this dish to one of our numerous potlucks, and I asked for the recipe. It is really excellent and mildly spicy; if you don’t like it that way, cut the cheese in half; it will still have a little kick! Even the most discerning diners will enjoy this recipe because it is so simple.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  1. 3 tablespoons butter
  2. 3 large eggs
  3. ¾ cup milk, room temperature
  4. ¾ cup flour
  5. 1 tablespoon sugar
  6. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  7. 1 pinch salt
  8. 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Place butter in an oven-proof pan or cast iron skillet and place in the oven.
  2. Meanwhile, combine eggs and milk in a bowl. Add flour, sugar, vanilla, and salt and whisk for 1 minute to remove lumps.
  3. Remove hot pan from the oven and swirl melted butter to coat. Pour batter into the hot pan and return it to the oven.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until the pancake is puffed in the center and golden brown on the edges, 20 to 25 minutes.
  5. Dust with confectioners’ sugar and slice into 8 wedges.

The recipe worked perfect as is. We had a heavy rainy pnw day too and they rose up wonderfully! I doubled the batch, baked both in 9 x 13 glass dishes and in one I added one cup fresh blueberries and the crowd went wild, crowd being my four kids. 🙂 I’ll be keeping this version and using from here on out!

This was the best dutch baby recipe I’ve tried, to date. But I did substitute Earth Balance vegan butter for the butter and oat milk for the cow’s milk. My family is dairy free. It turned out fantastic!

I made this exactly as described and it was delicious, the whole family enjoyed it. (definitely use a 10inch cast iron). This was my first time making a Dutch baby so I wasn’t 100% sure what the center consistency should be. I took it out of the oven at the 20 min mark (the sides were slightly browned) but the inside was a bit softer than I think it should be. So next time I think I will bake it for the full 25 minutes and I think it will be perfect. I served it with fresh strawberries and it was a hit.

Made it as written. Recipe should have specified size of skillet. The comments were helpful because they indicated size to use. The dough stuck to the bottom of the skillet in one spot. Maybe pouring batter into skillet should have been done more carefully or slowly. Tasted delicious. Served it with apples sautéed in brown sugar, butter and a little maple syrup.

I have made this several times and it has always been a hit with the family!

The cupboard was bare this morning. Yesterday’s sunshine had me outdoors instead of shopping for groceries. This wonderfully tasty recipe saved the day. Thank you!

Excellent. I added berries and drizzled berry syrup

These are great! Simple recipe. We use a blender and gently pulsed to mix ingredients. We did substitute buttermilk for milk and our family loved the change. Our oven run ps Powdered sugar and lemons made for a great birthday breakfast.

I have made this exactly as stated, as well as non-dairy (almond milk and margarine) – they were both WONDERFUL! This is my new FAVORITE THING. Thank you!

Easy as can be. I used an 8-inch cast iron skillet. I might recommend you use a 10-inch skillet.

I decreased this to 3 servings and baked it for only 17 minutes with my oven on “speed bake” setting. I also used fat free, lactose free milk instead of whole milk and it came out fine. It was delicious with blueberries on top. I will definitely make this again and again.
