A excellent recipe for homemade granola may be found here. I cook it every week! The raisins can be swapped out for any other dried fruit. It’s wonderful and I make mine with dried cranberries.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Total Time: 1 hr 15 mins
Servings: 12

Ingredients

  1. 5 cups old-fashioned oats
  2. 1 cup brown sugar
  3. 1 cup flaked coconut
  4. 1 cup wheat germ
  5. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  6. 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  7. ½ cup water
  8. ½ cup vegetable oil
  9. 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  10. ½ cup raisins
  11. ½ cup sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  2. Mix oats, brown sugar, coconut, wheat germ, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a large bowl. Stir water, oil, and vanilla extract into oat mixture; spread onto a baking sheet.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes, until golden brown and crunchy, about 1 hour; transfer to a bowl. Stir raisins and almonds through granola.

Awesome. Made as written except omitted wheat germ. Cut recipe in half too. Used dried cherries instead of cranberries. You can mix in various nuts, dried fruits, flavored chips (chocolate, butterscotch, etc) to make it how you want it to taste. A winner and so delicious!

As other suggested, I used 1/2 brown sugar & 1/2 maple syrup and added 1/2 tsp maple extract to water. 1/2 tsp salt and spread on 2 cookie sheets lined with sprayed foil (Spread it out for bigger chunks). 375 degrees for 6 min then stir then 6 min more, lower temp to 300 and 8 more min (at this point I add the almonds and dried cranberries. Turn off oven and let cool, no peeking.

Really good. Only change was coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. Ate it like cereal, will also be delicious on yogurt. Next time I’ll just use a little bit less cinnamon/nutmeg.

This is my favorite granola recipe. I have tried many. Because we are on the FODMAP diet I change the wheat germ to sesame or chia seeds and the nuts to pecans or walnuts. I double the recipe and make it every week or two!

Fantastic! I didn’t have the wheat germ so I left it out. I added the coconut when 15minutes were left for baking so the coconut would not burn. Delicious! I added dried cranberries, almonds, after baking.

I was very unsure of this when i pulled it out of the oven looked very dry and smelled as if the nutmeg would be too much. But the next morning my wife had it on yogurt and i ate as cereal and was very good. I will make again using different nuts and fruits in it. Would recommend it.

This is yummy but I may try it without the nutmeg and add some honey.

I just made this and threw it out. I followed the recipe exactly and by 45 minutes it had burned. I will try this recipe again either lowering the temp to 250 and baking for 1 hour stirring every 15 OR baking at 325 for 30 min and stirring every 10. It smelled great before it burned though!!

This was sooooo good! Of course I tweaked the recipe a bit due to availability of ingredients, I added walnuts to the oats, omitted the nutmeg (didn’t have any), used sweetened, shredded coconut, and olive oil for the oil. It turned out fabulous! Perfectly golden and sweet. I didn’t think it was too sweet at all with one cup of brown sugar (I used dark), the flavors were perfect. Not to mention my whole house had the enticing smell of brown sugar and vanilla wafting throughout! A big plus! I stirred the oats every 15 minutes as instructed, but I only cooked them for around 50 minutes, I think the full hour would have been a bit too much. I added dried cranberries once cooled and it is perfection! Thank you so much Jaime for the amazing recipe! I definitely will be making this again and again!

I’m trying to cut down on sugar so I made this recipe using only a quarter cup of brown sugar and about a quarter cup of Splenda. Otherwise just made it the same. It’s really easy to make and very good I bake it in 15 minute intervals. Stir and add the coconut and the almonds to toast after the first and second intervals.

This is a great basic recipe. Very easy to make. If you’re using a convection oven, stir every 10 minutes, and reduce the baking time. The full hour got it too toasty, but 30-40 minutes was perfect.

My new neighbor made this for me and it is delicious; she used dried cranberries, toasted walnuts, pumpkin seeds. The spices are a pleasant complement.
